Written on bottom RH corner of map: Ham's Squatting Map of Victoria ( Port Phillip District, New South Wales ) carefully corrected to this date from the Colonial Government Surveys, Crown Lands, Commissioners & Explorers Maps, Private Surveys & c. Respectfully inscribed (with permission ) to His Excellency Sir Chas A. Fitz-Roy Knt, Governor of New South Wales &c &c by his Obedient Servant, The Compiler, 1851. An illuminated invitation to the Australian Commonwealth Celebrations to be held at Flemington on Friday the 10th of May 1901. The invitation requests the presence of The Chairman Bendigo Mining Board Mr. D. R. Fleming and Lady. At each corner are views of Flemington, at the centre left to right is the King, a soldier on foot standing beside a soldier on horseback, the printing and name, then another soldier on horseback with a blue uniformed sailor beside him, then a picture of the Queen. At the centre bottom are various flags surrounding a badge with Pro Deo et Datria Victoria around a blue circle with a red cross with white stars in its centre and at the top centre is an emblem with a lion on the left and a unicorn on the right. Document - MINING REPORTS - AIR BRAKES
Handwritten quote from W. Abraham, Inspl of Mines, Bendigo. He had been at the Great Northern Company's mine when the engine driver was hauling water from the 1.780 feet level, with a tank on one side and a cage on the other, broke the cross-head and two motion-bars; the drums reversed and desecended about 50 feet. The driver applied the air-brakes. The drums were brought a standstill, without any further damage. The Insp. Was in favour of the air -brakes and thought every should be compelled to use them in shafts below 1,000 feet in depth. Also a list of companies who have had these brakes fitted to their winding plants and a list of the companies who intend to fit them. Medal - JOHN FREDERICK HARPER COLLECTION: MASONS 50 YEARS SERVICE MEDAL, 1932-1982
Object. 4.5 cms long pin from top clasp. Top clasp has brass ends, with leaf engraving. A 3 cm long panel in the centre is finished with light blue enamel, engraved with ''50 YEARS''. The lower clasp is gold and blue enamel engraved SERVICE. Below hangs a 3.5 cm diameter star pointed medallion, in the centre of which is a coat of arms, showing three lions, five stars(Southern Cross?) On a blue enamel background are the words'' Ancient Free And Accepted Masons VICTORIA. On the back of the swinging medallion, is engraved: Wor.Bro.J.E.HARPER, P.G.Swd B 1932-1982.On top and bottom clasp 50 YEARS SERVICE. On hanging medallion Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Victoria.
