These photographs were taken in and around Mount Beauty and the Kiewa Valley by Samuel Keith Pearce and printed for him as a foldout postcard by NuColor Vue. The postcards state they were printed for S. K. Pearce Pty. Ltd of Tawonga and Mount Beauty. Samuel Keith Pearce was born on 24 June 1917 in Armadale, Victoria. By the late 1940s he owned the Mt Beauty Supermarket, Newsagency, Drapery and Hardware store at Mount Beauty and also a store at Tawonga in partnership with his brother Gordon Cathew Pearce. For some time, they operated as Pearce Brothers. In the early 1960s Keith also opened a mini mart In Falls Creek. As well as being a keen photographer and an astute businessman, Keith Pearce was a well-known identity in the Kiewa Valley, making many contributions to the development of the area over a long period. This included serving as a member of the Bright Shire Council for many years. He worked hard to promote the interests of the Upper Kiewa Valley. As a sign of recognition and appreciation for his contribution to the community, the park opposite the grocery store in Mount Beauty was named the SK Pearce Gardens in his honour. Samuel Keith Pearce died on 7 July 1994 in Mount Beauty, Victoria Mt. Beauty at the head of the Kiewa Valley was established by the State Electricity Commission during the development of the Kiewa Hydroelectric Scheme. It forms the gateway to the Bogong High Plains, and is a popular centre for holiday makers in the north-east providing accommodation and access to excellent fishing grounds and, in winter, to the popular ski slopes of nearby Falls Creek.This collection of postcards and images is significant because they were commissioned by a highly successful businessman in Falls Creek, Victoria.A colour image of Mt. This outfit was donated by Hayley Martin. It was worn by two generations of the family, Hayley's mother and later by Hayley herself. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s the six members of the Martin Family generally spent at least a week each year at Falls Creek, staying at Spargo's Lodge. The Martins then bought a share in Diana Lodge and stayed there frequently until the late 1970s. The sweater (HEAD brand) was purchased at Molony's at Falls Creek.This item is significant as it is indicative of the apparel worn by skiers at Falls Creek in the 1960s and 1970s.Black woollen stretch pants with white line pattern. The document is a record of Legatee Crosbie and his visits to widows and families under the care of Melbourne Legacy. Legatee Crosbie gave over 40 years service to Melbourne Legacy (Footscray/Sunshine branch). Total widows and families visited 166. Between 1959 and 1999 it is estimated Legatee Crosbie visited each widow 4-5 times per year between 1959-1999. Legatee Crosbie demostrated outstanding service in the care and interest taken by him in his service to Legacy and those that needed help. A photo of senior girls in performing their health exercises from an annual demonstration. The girls were dressed in their physical exercise kit which was provided by Legacy to the junior legatees. The photo was featured in the July 1954 newsletter so was from the year before. The article showcased the work of the Legacy girls. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and Eurythmics. The Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to 1979, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall. The beautiful costumes were made by members of the Junior Legacy Mothers' Club and the Melbourne Legacy Wives' Association. A record of the displays at the Annual Demonstrations. The President's Fund was created in 1932 by a donation from Legatee Walter W Berry from his late father's estate "to help temporarily embarrassed Melbourne Legatees" towards the end of The Great Depression. The aim of the fund was the give the President a way to help needy cases with discretion and without having to gain approval from committees. In many cases the money was repaid by the recipient. This sheet of accounts was compiled in 1986 to show the income and expenditure over the previous 15 years. Donations continued to come from the Berry Fund and also from the Over 70s Legatees. The over 70s was a group of legatees that met up socially and after their annual meeting they forwarded a cheque to Legacy. Also appears to be donations from legatee Dono Joynt. The expenditure is marked as ANON to protect the identity of the recipients and amounted to $7,600 over the 15 years. The note mentions some of the amounts are estimates. This document was in a folder labelled President's Fund Origin and Authorisation with many other documents that included correspondence, receipts of donations and material about when money was given to help appropriate cases. The folder was marked with H40 which is part of an early archive project from the late 1960s and early 1970s.The Presidents Fund was a significant help to legatees and junior legatees who were unable to obtain help from other sources.White lined paper with hand written columns of income and expenditure and a note that accompanied the account.
