This set of baby scales is believed to have been used in a Baby Health Centre in Warrnambool. The first Baby Health Centre in Warrnambool was opened in Liebig Street in October 1921. It was initially run by Sister Riley. The development of Baby Health Centres in Victoria was largely due to the work of Dr Isabella Younger-Ross (1887-1956). She was born in Warrnambool to Henrietta and John Younger (the Younger department store operated in Liebig Street Warrnambool for over 60 years). Isabella Younger Ross studied medicine in Melbourne and Glasgow and she was a prominent worker in the field of maternal and infant welfare for over 40 years. These scales are retained as an example of the type of equipment used in baby health centres in the early to mid 20th century. It will be useful for display.This is a metal set of scales with a rectangular base tapering at one end. At the top is attached a metal receptacle for holding a baby and underneath this on top of the base is the scale mechanism with a metal measuring device. In the background is the Town Hall. The tram was originally Hawthorn Tramways Trust No. 26, then MMTB 132 and sold to the SEC in 1945 becoming tram 15. It was later renumbered to No. 36 during 1953. This ledger contains the financial records of a business that appears to be based in Warrnambool with connections to Koroit, Heywood and Dartmoor. The dates of the records are from 1941 to 1947. Unfortunately the name of the business is unknown but there are several references to the names, R.J. Allwood and G. Newnham.This ledger is of minor interest but if the business owner is confirmed in the future it will have some research value.This is a ledger with a black hard cover of composite material and metal binding. There is a metal mechanism in the back cover for inserting the pages. This item is a souvenir booklet that would have been purchased by a tourist in the Warrnambool district in the mid 20th century. The photographs are representative of the tourist attractions of the area – Hopkins Falls, the mouth of the Hopkins River, Shelly Beach, the Breakwater, the Botanical Gardens etc. Tourism in Warrnambool began to be important towards the end of the 19th century when the coastal scenery, the beaches and the Sea Water Baths were advertised to promote Warrnambool as a spa resort town. Today tourism is a major industry in the city. This item is of minor interest as a souvenir of the type of postcard purchased by tourists in the mid 20th century. This is a piece of blue paper folded in two with black and blue printing on the front and back covers and an image of two kookaburras on the front cover. In the back of the front cover is pasted a strip of paper containing 13 black and white photographs folded in concertina fashion to form a booklet. The front cover has an extension that fits into a slot on the back cover to enclose the photographs. There is space for a stamp and an address on the front cover and space for the name of the sender on the back cover. The dress was worn by Dorothy Hirst (nee Cust) who was married to Cedric Hirst of the Godfrey Hirst Woollen Mills. Dorothy was born in 1908 and passed away in 2010 aged 102. Sleeveless teal and blue gown with sash at the waist and tie at back. Clear, silver and blue beaded detail is featured on the front and bodice.
