Alison M Grant (18/3/1925–15/4/1984) studied for a B.D. as a private student and when in 1974 the General Assembly of Australia approved the ordination of women she applied to be a candidate for the ministry and was ordained in 1975. She served in Robinvale and Balmoral before her untimely death from cancer on Palm Sunday 1984. Functional object - Gladstone Bag c. 1900s
This is a suitcase known as a Gladstone bag. It is named after William Gladstone (1809-1898), a Prime Minister of England. Gladstone bags were first produced by Edward Cole in London in 1854. These bags were commonly used, mainly by men, for business, work and sporting purposes. As it was compact and stored a large amount of material , it was a popular choice for men travelling to their workplace or carrying clothes and equipment to sporting event.This bag has significance as it was widely used by men throughout Australia. The original owner of this bag was a police officer in Bright, Victoria, although it is typical of those used by many local men in their daily life.This is a small suitcase, called a Gladstone bag, made of stiffened brown leather built over a rigid metal frame. It has a leather handle on top of the metal frame and a metal lock on the side of the frame. There are metal clips at each end of the frame.. Metal straps attached to the sides of the case. Autobiography - Joh Bjelke-Petersen. Petersen was the longest serving Premier of Queensland from 1968-1987, representing the National Party. His wife, Flo Bjelke-Petersen, served in the federal senate. He is known for the Joh for PM campaign (unsuccessful) and as a participant in the downfall of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam in 1975. Printed certificate awarded by the Education Department, Victoria to schoolchildren who raised the amount of one pound (the currency of that time) for the War Relief effort during World War 2. This example bears the name of Eva Littlechild, a pupil at Cheltenham School number 84 and is dated 22nd December, 1942. John Bulmer spent forty years of his life as missionary to Aboriginal people in Victoria, in 1855 devoting his activities to communities on the Murray, but most of his life was spent at Lake Tyers where he established a Church of England mission in 1862, In his later years he wrote a series of thirteen papers in which he recorded his observations on the life and times of the people to whom he ministered.
