Decorative purple loops on sleeves and around neckline. Dress worn with a decorative overskirt, (see 11400.124), hand made. 1860's dress worn in 1920 by Ava Jane Hall, granddaughter of W.Lansell. Back of the bodice has an opening from the top(10cm) fastened at neckline by two covered buttons and a hand stitched loop. Nine covered decorative buttons at centre back.Peaked collar front and back in two parts (10cm at front peaks).Front and back have centre panel with two panels shaped at the hipline. Back centre panel extends to form a long train. Length waist to centre front hem 102 cms.Length waist to centre back hem 187 cms to form train. Handkerchief hem at lower hemline. Long sleeved burgundy coloured coat - velvet fabric lined with ''dusty pink'' satin with woven floral pattern. Lining hand stitched to coat. Second layer of cotton lining across the shoulders and back( 39cmsLength). Sewn into neck and shoulder seams. Large uneven stitches attach the lining to side seams. Coat and lining have seven gored panels giving fullness to the coat. Fold over collar (14 cms). Front opening with ten velvet covered shanked buttons with fabric loops. Long sleeves gathered at shoulder and cuffs(2 cms), with six cms opening with press stud fastener.Owner of coat was Isabel Lilian Pegler (nee Mair) 1921-1997. The coat was worn to Saturday night dances.
