One photo used in the Courier Supplement to mark the closure of the system.Black and White copy photographs of a newspaper photograph taken by The Courier - published 20/9/1971 in the Courier supplement of No. 32 inbound in Bridge St. Possibly taken early September 1971, prior to closure of Mt Pleasant. Both photographs very similar, tram has moved off from stop in the 2nd one. Shows Bank of New South Wales, Gallants News Agency, Walter Davis Pty Ltd, E. Glitch, ANZ Bank (ES&A) buildings. Photocopy of an article in the State Electricity Commission of Victoria Magazine, Contact, Vol 1, No. 4, Feb 1937 titled "Electricity Supply and Tramways / Reconditioning the Tramway Systems at Ballarat and Bendigo". Each item had a thin strip of paper attached by staple to the top left hand corner, giving the Vol. No. details. The item gives the background to the takeover from ESCo. Details some of the work undertaken in both Ballarat and Bendigo, including the widening of double track in McCrae St to 10' to allow ex MMTB trams to run. Work at Grenville St - City Loop, the method of track laying in Ballarat - concrete stringers, welded joints, financial arrangements for the work - employment council. Includes replacement of trolley wire. Features photos of reconditioned track on the Eaglehawk Route and a caterpillar tractor. Record revised 31/3/2019 to replace images with those from Andrew Cook CD and to include item .1 .1 - Item also was originally printed with different photographs in the Electrical Engineer and merchandiser Sept 15 1936. ... to December 1906. All pages are filled. Financial record Kelly ...1. Michael Peter Kelly (1853-1929) was born in Galway, Ireland and came to Australia in 1870. He was a director of many mines and was elected to the Bendigo Stock Exchange in 1882. At one point he was the chairman of the Exchange. He married Margaret Jane Carr in 1887 and they lived at "Norwood", Wills St., Bendigo. 2. Arthur Allsop (1856 - 1921) was a renowned athlete in many fields, including running, lacrosse, cricket, football and lawn bowls. He was an independent bookmaker and was elected to the Bendigo Stock Exchange in 1906. He was also a Past Grand Master of the MUIOOF lodge. After his time in Bendigo, and following the death of his wife in 1914, he moved to Melbourne and then Sydney where he died. The first manager was Edwin Chaplin. It had an initial nominal capital of 11,200 pounds raised through 224 shares of 50 pounds each. It was liquidated and delisted on the stock exchange in 1951.Two typewritten letters, one dated 8th May 1925 and the other 22nd June 1925. Both letters are addressed to Mr. M. Kelly, Beehive chambers, Bendigo. The first one advising that enclosed is a statutory declaration in connection with the scrip certificates for 200 shares that have been lost. The second one advising of two cheques for 25 pounds enclosed as payment of dividends.
