Water For the Thirsty Inland was published by The Murrumbidgee Valley Water Users Association as a case for diversion of part of the Snowy River waters to the Murrumbidgee. In 1950 The Murrumbidgee Valley Water Users Association and the League established the Murray-Murrumbidgee Development Committee to ensure the Snowy Scheme was completed.This book is a significant research tool for the history of the diversion of the Snowy River.A 44 pp book, titled Water For The Thirsty Inland. On the front cover is a coloured print of a painting of a river (Snowy River?) from the mountains to the flats. The text of the title is white with a black shadow. This item belonged to Daisy Close, born 1899, at Murrangowar. She was the mother of Ethel Pike. Daisy Close married Ed Jensen who lived at Murrangowar. The Jensens were farmers. The wristing set was probably used at home rather than at school.This book, together with a book awarded to Daisy Close form part of the history of the Close family who were early settlers at Murrangowar in the late 19th century.A black rectangular box -probably cardboard covered with leatherette. The top folds out and inside the box lid are pockets. In the main section is a compartment for an inkwell. The inkwell has a an ink bottle. At Sunday school sacred songs were taught to/ sung by students. Students attended Sunday School classes at the Kergunyah Presbyterian Church. Sunday school was held in a little 16 foot square wooden building which came from Rocky Valley after it was no longer needed there. Ewen Wallace's father initiated and organised the move. C2011 the building was knocked down because of white ants. The Presbyterian Church will be 125 years old in 2015Historical: Religious Education: This book was used by students who attended the Sunday School classes at the Kergunyah Presbyterian Church. Colin Hutchinson Key (1907-1939) was the son of Albert Key (1872-1921) and Isabella Roberts (1875-1940) and the grandson of Frederick Key (1842-1908) and Jane Key (nee Dalrymple 1845-1931) Suspect the photo is misidentified and is actually Albert Key, Colin Key's father. The fashion is more indicative of late 1890s - c.1896 [Cataloguing Note: Identification of individual does not fit the time period for the photographer by about 15 to 20 years - possibly misidentified. It is not sure which of the two Dowseys from Bendigo it is. The two are; David DOWSEY No 2133 enlisted in the AIF in 6th reinforcements 14th Batt on 21.5.1915 age 34 years 11 months. Embarked for Egypt 17.6.1915, embark for Gallipoli 1.8.1915, hospital with sore feet 11.10.1915, rejoin unit 21.10.1915, WIA 26.11.1915 GSW to Arm, during recovery gets himself into a bit of trouble, hospital 8.3.1916 with Influenza, rejoin unit 10.3.1916, hospital again two days later with Influenza and then classed Rhuematism, returns to Australia 11.5.1916 classed Chronic Rhuematism. Edward DOWSEY No 5526 enlisted in the AIF in October 1916 Tunnelling Coy reinforcements on 13.3.1916 age 29 years 1 month. Embark for England 25.10.1916, embark for France 4.6.1917 and attached to the 1st Tunnelling Coy, WIA 15.2.1918 GSW to Left shoulder, returns to Australia for discharge 11.12.1918 and discharged on 1.3.1919.Brown, wooden frame with white inner edge, glass front with brown cardboard backing. Early 20th C. image of crew members on board ship. It is thought that the basins were used to collect their meals as a way of ensuring minimum spillage when the vessel was under way. The Barque Crocodile out of Liverpool is documented in an Annual report as donating 15 shillings and sixpence from the crew towards the building fund for the Mission Building.
