Two viaduct bridges were constructed across the Jacksons Creek valley at Rupertswood on the Bendigo rail line to bring the trains down the steep incline into Sunbury station.A photograph of the railway viaduct bridge showing one end of the span and 4 of the pylons. Black and white photograph depicting a dog (named Jack) carrying newspaper delivery from the railway station up Were Street (to the Post Office). Mr. and Mrs Musselwhite ran the post office and owned Jack (the Alsatian dog) which was trained to go down to the railway station each day about 3pm and collect the daily parcel of evening newspapers, delivered by train, and take the bundle up to the newsagency. Saddle blankets matching regimental colour patch were used by light horse regiments in the period between the wars, 1920-1940. On 21 November 1959 yet another special train was run, this time on a G41 engine showing the sign "Puffing Billy Preservation Society, Beech Forest, 25-11-59", with eight NBH excursion carriages and a guard's van. The train stopped at Beech Forest where people removed themselves and wandered around the station. Mixed goods wagons loaded with wood and louvred van rest in the background. June 2012 represented 50 years since the Colac to Beech Forest to Weeaproinah narrow guage railway was closed. The last goods train ran on 27 June 1962, and the last passenger excursion train on 30 June 1962. The railway was the lifeblood of the West Otways for several decades, enabling farmers and saw millers to bring into economic production the natural wealth of the region. A steam train about to cross the trestle bridge at Eltham heading towards Greensborough, viewed from what was later Eltham Town Park and later the site of the re-lcoated Shillinglaw Cottage (1964) and Eltham Library (1994) site. On the far side of the track on what became Eltham Football Ground oval is a crop field. The railway was commenced in 1900 and passed through the middle of the Shillinglaw Farm. The racehorse 'Wollamai" [ or Wollemi ] was bred and trained on Phillip Island by John Cleeland on Phillip Island. It won the Melbourne Cup in 1875. The Phonic Ear hearing aids were actually auditory trainers for children in school. This aid was also an FM receiver so the child could clearly hear the teacher's voice.
