Original c 1914 (see below), facsimile copy - re-published 1972. Original features photos of Ballarat City and Town, its buildings, parks and the various industries and organisations that were in Ballarat at the time of publication, including ESCo. Many photos features ESCo trams. Photos sepia toned. Has some red colour block printing on the front cover and rear, for Star Oil Engines. On inside back cover is a map with the places of interest and tram route map, marked in red. Pages are un-numbered. Original published by Ballarat East Town Council and Ballaarat City Council. On cover has number stamped in black in, "No. 87" (assume facsimile copy No.). Photos with publication show tram No. 21, built 1913 and ESCo photo page shows Mr. Pringle as Manager. Mr Pringle became manager in January 1911, As there is no photos of the "Avenue of Honour", or other mention of the first world war, assume original published about 1913 or 1914. Set of two Newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side. Clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, 19/8/1971; two letters to the Editor, about the closure of the Ballarat tramways, that some of the trams and line should be saved and what the aims of the BTPS are. The first from a person titled "All Het Up", and the second from John Anderson of P.O. Box 145 Box Hill. The second clipping from The Sun, Melbourne dated 14/7/1971 written by Keith Dunstan in his column, "A Place in the Sun" about the forthcoming closure of the Ballarat and Bendigo systems. Has a photo of a Bendigo Birney tram and notes their rarity. The second part is about the formation of the BTPS, which has 100 paid up members and quotes Shane McCarthy, a committeeman. Both cuttings in two portions.In red ink in lower edge of first cutting "19/8/71". On sheet of paper, various pencil / ink markings - with date Dec. 1963. Yields information about the closure of the SEC Ballarat system in particular the Victoria St line. Has a strong association with the article author.Set of two Newspaper clippings pasted onto a single sheet of paper with two Punch holes on the left hand side with one hole through the photograph within the cutting. Clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, Monday, 23/8/1971 (corrected date), of two items in the paper about the closure of the trams in Victoria St. The main item written by a staff reporter recalls the days of travelling regularly on the tram when a student going to and from school, Saturday travelling and as a means of transport. Second item in the same cutting reports on the closure of the Victoria St. route the previous day. Mentions the interest in the trams, the BTPS, and police protection that was not needed. Photograph accompanying the article is of a driver turning the pole at the Victoria St. terminus of tram No. 31. Memorabilia - Event Materials, The Ballaarat Begonia Festival Association, "1971 Ballaarat Begonia Festival - Official Programme Souvenir Tourist Guide", 25/08/2002
Twenty 28 page printed program with a four colour cover printed on heavier stock for the 1971 Begonia Festival. Includes details of the organisers, a welcome to the City, Sovereign Hill, Official programme, (26/2 to 8/3), photos and details of the various tourist attractions, statistics about Ballaarat, some details of the facilities, churches, Royal South St and industry. The main text is printed in black ink, the centre 16pp consists of the programme printed in blue ink. Front page has a half full cover photo of the gardens area. All other photos are black and white. On page 31 is a small photo of a bogie tram at Mt. Pleasant and that these trams were 'doomed' and would be replaced by buses. On rear cover is a map of Ballarat in pink ink, showing the tram and bus routes. Second copy held - added 28/12/2002. See Reg Item 5042 for an advertising brochure for the festival. Black and white photograph contained within Reg. Item 2488, page 55, of ESCo No. 19 or 20, summer toastrack tramcar, on the Wendouree Parade depot fan. Has a large number of people at one end of the tramcar. Depot "Bundy" clock visible in the background. Uniform - Cap, Commonwealth Government Clothing Factories Melbourne, early 1960's
Demonstrates uniform cap manufacture for a SEC Inspector and has a strong association with Theo Dunstan.A well used - SEC Inspectors/Conductors cap - black cloth exterior, grey cotton interior lining, brown leather internal hat band, on exterior with a plastic band at the front half of the cap terminating in two small SEC gold coloured metal buttons on either side, black plastic peak. Side stapled and then bound with a green tape on left hand side. Gives details of the standards of the materials, rolling, payment, conformity, testing, marking holes for both rails and fishplates. Drawings for 13 different weight rails, straight and curves, 90lb/yard to 116 and a drawing of the BS tyre profile for tram car wheels and how it interfaces with a rail. Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, Wed. 22/9/1971, pages 7, 8 and 49,50. Pages 7 and 8 - see Reg. Item 1846, Pieces of Tram History - "Ballarat Tramways Sample Tickets". Pages 49 and 50 - "Last Tram". Two photos of crews and identities involved in the running of the Last tram the previous Sunday. Photos feature: Cr N.F. Donald, Mayor of Sebastopol, handing the tram keys over to Cr. J. Chisholm , at the town boundary. Others featured in the first photo, Mr. L. J. Denmead, L. Walker, Mrs. Chisholm and Mrs Donald. The Second photo feature: Eddie Lake, Alec Turnbull, Joe Smerdon and Herb Knight. Under photos has a Railways of Australia, RoA, advertisement titled "The Age of superpower". The drawing is very detailed showing streets, cross streets, route, loops, schools, woollen mills, ovals, sections, track phones, stops, route and track miles, pedestrian crossings, railway stations and notes on through route mileages.Print of a drawing showing in very good detail, the schematic layout of the Geelong Tram system. Produced in 1953 and sent to Tramway Supt. in 1970 for his records. Gives very detailed information on another SEC tramway system.Dyeline print of SEC Drawing No. GE-T13-8829, titled "Schematic Diagram Geelong Tramway Routes". Drawing prepared 27/8/1953. Stapled to the top right hand corner of the sheet is a SEC memo form from finance section, distribution services to the Dept. Tramway Superintendent, Ballarat, dated 6-2-1970 forwarding Les Denmead the plan. Was unstapled during the 1/2008 copying of the drawing. Photo of Geelong electric tram No. 11 - crossbench tram, taken in the same location as Reg Item 4316, following conversion from a trailer in Corio Terrace, now Brougham St. Has the driver and conductor standing at either end of the tram. Has the destination of "Newtown", 4345.1 - Black and White print contained within the Wal Jack Bendigo and Geelong Album, see Reg Item 5003 for more details. Added 7/8/2013.
