Notes written on small notebook re Colin Horne, 603 Hargreaves St., Bendigo, who was a teacher at Golden Square at the age of 17 years in 1929, , before he went to Melbourne Teachers' College, and then to Melbourne University. He won a scholarship to Ballioe College Oxford, lectured in English at the Queen's Uni., Belfast, then Leicester University England., was then Chair of English at Adelaide Uni. Unable to attend 125th. Due to failing health. Mentioned in notes Mr. Newman and Miss Barr as teachers who inspired him. A report filled in for research about Junior Teachers, (7 pages). Aboriginal Place Names. List of Aboriginal place names, Appendix A: word list, Appendix B: present day names. Loose inside the front cover is a newspaper cutting, one one side is a short report on a new National Anthem, and on other are references to Murray Farm Primary School, Carlingford. Below that is a reference to Comenarra Parkway between South Turramurra and Thornleigh. This cutting is dated 12/02/74. The Sutton grange Congregational Church was built in 1865. Original services were held in the home of Mr James Grey who served the church for 50 years. The Bendigo Congregational church originally operated out of the Mechanics Institue building before moving temporarily to the Church of England school room. In May 1858, a meeting was held to establish a permanent building and tenders were called in September 1858. Land was purchased in Forest Street from the estate of Mr WIlkinson and the new brick structure was opened 28/11/1858.Manilla folder titled: Congregational Church Bendigo and district.
