‘A’ Squadron 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles conducted a parade at Buna Barracks, Albury on Sunday 1 May 1988 to mark the 103rd Anniversary of the formation of the Victorian Mounted Rifles and the 40th Anniversary of the linking of the 8th (Indi), 13th (Gippsland) and 20th (Victorian Mounted Rifles) Light Horse Regiments to form the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles. Colonel G K Howard, Director of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps was the Reviewing Officer. The Pipes and Drums of the 5th/6th Battalion Royal Victorian Regiment provided the music for the occasion. This booklet was given to subscribers to the Warrnambool Standard newspaper as an almanac for the year 1912. Warrnambool Standard Almanacs were produced from 1875 to 1930. They contain much local information on Warrnambool and district about government officials, harbour management, businesses, banks, churches, large landowners, schools, societies and organizations etc. The Warrnambool Standard newspaper was established in 1872 and continues to this day. This booklet is of high significance as it contains much valuable information on Warrnambool and district for the year 1912. It is a very important resource tool for those studying and writing the history of Warrnambool and district. This copy has no known original owner but came into the collection of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society via the Langi Morgala Museum in Ararat This is a soft cover booklet of 116 pages with several pages of advertisements at the front and the back of the book. The cover has a white background with an ornamental blue border and blue lettering. The cover is stained and a little torn. The inscription is handwritten in blue ink and includes a blue stamp. See KVHS 0965. The 125 year old hotel was burnt down in December 2011. A popular destination for the district and visitors with many fly fishermen staying there.Mr and Mrs Crotty were the first publicans of the hotel. It had a long history providing employment, accommodation, entertainment and socialising throughout the years to the residents of the Kiewa Valley.Black and white photo glued onto thick cardboard creating a frame. This photo was most probably taken when the Ballarat School of Mines was considering the former Ballarat East Library as a campus. In 1980 the Ballarat School of Mines Council presented a proposal to the Ballarat City Council regarding occupying and managing the Ballarat East Free Library as a School of Traditional Crafts.
