Set of four leather MMTB/The Met ticket wallets, remanufactured for use on Metcard tickets. Each wallet set up for 15 different tickets. Each wallet has been fixed with a stamped brass plate riveted to the outside with the depot and outfit number. Based on item 21, and the prices mid 1990's. 1 - G27 - with labels for the various tickets and prices. Functional object - Ticket punch, Set of 4, c1970
Set of four brass cast, chrome plated, machined, device or ticket punches used to cancel or punch paper tickets when purchased. Placed a hole in the ticket. Spring loaded, consists of two main parts with a pin & spring in addition. . Some of the chrome plating has been worn off. There are no manufacturer markings on the punches. .1 - number P1554 - punches a four pointed hole - would have been used at Preston Depot. .2 - number 1079, punches a hole in the shape of a club as on a card game. .3 - number 1113, punches a four pointed hole. .4 - number 190, punches a heart shaped hole. Note the destination on the trailer or cable car "via Smith St. Possibly taken prior to the closure of the cable tram system in October 1940 and could be at the Clifton Hill depot or car house. Photo used in a poster, Melbourne Tramways Past and Present - with the caption Depot Employees at Clifton Hill at Final Stage Oct. 1940 This photograph is Public Records Office photo H179 in the Victorian Railways collection.Yields information about the type of uniforms or office clothing worn by cable tram staff prior to the closure of the cable tram system, the type of and number of employee's at a depot. In mid 1941, the MMTB commenced to employ females as Conductresses to alleviate a man power shortage as result of the Second World War. The first 8 commenced training at Hawthorn Depot during August and commenced work on 4 September. See reference for more details on the use of female staff. The nickel-plated badge is stamped "Stokes & Sons Victoria" while the brass button is stamped "Stokes Australia". Badge - ATMOEA Vic. Branch (Tramways Union) badge
Given to members of the Australian Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees Association union wear on their uniforms. The union badge was permitted to be worn on a uniform.Demonstrates a MMTB uniform button.Badge was made on a brass/gold backing with painted enamel on the front. On the central portion of the badge, had the ATMOEA logo, with the words "Vic" with red enamel backing, and on the outer edge of the badge "Aust Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees Association" with a royal blue background. The back of the badge is fitted with a spring retaining clip. The plastic bag is most likely what it was delivered in and was handed to Union members. Ray Roberts commenced with the MMTB in 1961 at South Melbourne depot. Born at Reefton NZ. Worked as a connie for 33 years. This volume has many personal notes on his work, his colleagues and events that affected the tramways. Includes many photocopies of newspaper articles. At the rear has a item about the history of the South Melbourne tram depot. Used on Ballarat-Skipton railway line to carry money and tokens. Rescued from bonfire when Linton Station was demolished, by Fred Freestone. Donated to Society 1981.Two brown leather pouches. Bag 1 has brass plate which reads "Linton" (plate attached to square of leather stitched to bag). Bag 2 has the word "Linton" written in ink on front, where leather patch and brass plate used to be. Each bag has two brass loops at top, holding a leather strap which keeps the pouch closed. A brass padlock with a key is attached to the strap.Makers' marks: On padlock 1 and its key: "M 63" "J.
