Originally the Post Office was Bendigo Creek. In 1854 The Post Office changed to Sandhurst. 1891 a poll of rate payers changed the name to Bendigo. (b) A typed rough copy of 'Little Bendigo' describing a Houldens Bus trip (in 1969) from Bendigo to Ballarat. Charles Sherratt named Bendigo Creek after his bullock driver Bendigo. C) 2 sheets of paper pasted on cardboard relating the findings of the Select Committee inquiring into the claim of Henry Frenchmen to be the 1st discoverer of gold on Bendigo & the origin of the name Bendigo.cottage, miners

The group of tennis players were photographed on a court that was sited in Evans Street, adjacent to the post office. Found in the roof space at Three Springs, Clematis with various bridles, harness, reins and collars. They came from under the original post office at "Holly Tree Inn", Olinda.Ornate Leather Bridle made by J.Kelly, St. Kilda and Melbourne. It has blinkers, snaffle bit and a throat strap. There is no information with this item. In the Bairnsdale Advertiser and Tamboon and Omeo Chronicle on Thursday August 3 1893, there is mention of a letter from Mr Harry Roberts, Marlo Road, "offering to sell the corduroy road to the council for £10, on condition that the council arranges for the exchange of the old road for one on the nothern boundary of his property.-Application to be made to the Lands department for the necessary exchange of roads to carry this proposal into effect. From the secretary for Lands, asking the council to mark the roads required in the M'Colloch on the plan,-Attended" This is likely to be the man in the photograph. This photograph seems to be associated with a very early settler in the Orbost / Marlo area. Edward Whitehead was a printer and publisher active in Melbourne during the latter half of the 19th century. Whitehead founded his printing business at 67 Collins Street East in 1864 and, though not focused on maps, began publishing his own series of maps of Victoria in 1867. He focussed on producing highly detailed folding maps of Victoria which included a very detailed index of place names.
