In January 1912, a small school was established at Chelsea, with 65 students, in Hoadley’s Hall, located on Main Road, Chelsea, near the Nepean Highway. Due to its Oriental appearance, the local people called this hall “The Joss House.” Hoadley's Hall was was originally used at the Melbourne Show Grounds by Hoadley's which was moved to Chelsea. The Hall was also used for church services by different religions before they built their own churches. An honour board recording winners of the Barbara Rutherford Memorial Braille Reading competition. From 1985, the decision was made to expand the children's Braille book collection in lieu of an award. The Barbara Rutherford Memorial Braille Reading competition was created by James and Margaret Rutherford when their daughter Barbara died in 1974, in recognition of her enjoyment as a transcriber at RBS. James Rogers was born in Wallaroo, South Australia, but came to Sailor's Gully, Eaglehawk with his family as an infant. He was converted in a Salvation Army meeting at Bendigo. He became a member of the Primitive Methodist Church at Eaglehawk. St Hilary's Anglican Church in Kew was established in 1888 on land granted to the congregation by the Dumaresq family. The brick building shown here replaced an earlier wooden structure.Small black and white photographic positive, one of four, of a Christmas party for children at St Hilary's Church, 12 John Street, Kew. In 1910, a Union Jack flag was sent to Rutherglen State School No. 522 from a group of schools in Rutherglen Scotland, in exchange for an Australian flag previously sent to schools in Rutherglen Scotland. This exchange was part of the Empire Day Movement to celebrate Empire Day in 1911. It was one of nearly 300 flags that were exchanged between Australian and United Kingdom schools. In the early 19th century, infant gowns were modelled on dresses worn by adult women. Gowns were typically made of fine white linen or cotton, and often trimmed with tucks, lace, whitework embroidery, and other handwork. The Kew Historical Society's collection includes over twenty-five gowns dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. This gown was worn by one or more of the Weir children.This is one of ten items of clothing, worn by infants in the Weir family of Broken Hill between 1899 and 1910. They are part of the larger Weir Family collection of clothing, documents and photographs gifted to the Kew Historical Society by their descendants. Due to their known provenence, the gowns are historically and aesthetically significant in that they can be accurately dated to an 11-year-period, allowing other comparable items of infant's and children's clothing to be dated to an earlier, silmilar or later period. They also exemplify the styles and decorative techniques used for christening gowns, infant's and children's clothing of the period.Long, white cotton infant's gown. This high-necked gown with elbow length sleeves is less ornate than the three christening gowns in the Weir Family Collection, indicating that it was used for daily wear by one of the Weir children in the first six months of their life. The looser ruching at the waist would indicate a later date in the period 1899-1910. The gown is identical to 2025.26.Nilchildren's wear

For almost five years Gibbons toured with nine Australian infantry battalions, posting compelling war images from within many combat zones before being flown out in late November 1970 after sustaining injuries.
