The collection includes a small number of cast iron kitchen range components which appear to originate from more than one fuel-burning cooker. They are possibly relics from the two nineteenth century kitchens destroyed in the 1951 bushfire or bits from abandoned obsolete cookers. There are two oven doors, both with different types of hinges and handles discernible despite their badly corroded condition. One door is rectangular with a raised edging and a handle in the shape of a fist gripping a rod; the other door has a slightly curved top and is also framed and retains its strap hinges and central lock/handle. After the shell of a 1977 HZ ambulance was located in Toowoomba, the Museum transported it back to the workshop. On inspection it was seen that the shell was in fair condition other than the firewall and drivers side floor, which were rusted out and needed to be replaced. The body is the normal van size but is fitted with an extra door on the driver’s side and a small seat where the doctor/ambo sits. Other than that the only other things were red dust and old wasp nests. After many months of restoration the ambulance now has a 173 red motor, Trimatic automatic transmission and the body has been painted in the Queensland Ambulance Service colour and markings. As the base station of the ambulance is unknown, other that they were used in the outback, we have made the decision to base it at Mt Isa We thank the Victorian Ambulance Historical group for the donation of the stretcher and other items. General Motors Holden imported this vehicle into Australia from Canada in approximately 1941 or 1942 as 4 door sedan. The Oldsmobile company believed that at the end of WW2 there would be a need for coupes worldwide. GMH at that time were heavily committed to he war effort and the proposal was to convert this vehicle into a coupe in line for Coup with the Oldsmobile policy. The conversion went ahead under some secrecy as the war effort had priority. The result was by the end of war this coupe was manufactured at the GMH Fisherman's Bend plant. The car was taken to both Brisbane and Sydney motor shows and was immediately a success with GMH taking orders at both shows. However when these orders were forwarded to Oldsmobile USA the response was less than favourable. Apparently Oldsmobile had been inundated with orders for Coupes in both Canada and the USA and could not fullfill any overseas orders due to lack of capacity. This vehicle under instructions from USA was to be hidden and not used for sales promotion anywhere in Australia. The exact location of this vehicle is somewhat lost between 1946 and 1990's. It was located in Kyneton in Victoria where it had been placed in the back of Kyneton GMH dealership. It was extracted by Doug___ from Warrandyte, removed from the blackberries and undergrowth and taken for restoration. Progress was slow and it was sold to the museum fully restored by Mr Rob Treen Glassy Spur Victoria. The colours both interior and exterior are the same as it came out of the GMH workshop in 1945.It is a one off vehicle and the only 2 door RHD Oldsmobile Coupe body made by Holden.1946 Black Oldsmobile 2 door automobile, 1932, car

W. Membrey Blacksmith Shop in Patrick Street beside the sale yards which later became the Technical School Gold Reef Campus. W. Membrey died when young leaving a large family. The business was then rented to Mr. G. Brehaut for 12/6 (twelve shillings six pence) per week. The Membrey family lived in Skene St. Stawell for many years. The cedar sideboard has two cupboard doors below two corresponding drawers. The style is in keeping with the completion date of the lightstation in 1884, when furniture in the late nineteenth century had squarer, more defined lines and angles, and ornamental features. This sideboard is a modest version of this trend combining a pediment‐shaped back board with turned side columns and finials, rectangular mirror, decorative drawer pulls and door handle, as well as cupboards and drawers with bevelled, raised panels. The initials ‘PWD’along with a crown motif and letters are inscribed on the side indicating that the furnishing was the property of the government and made in its workshops. The Public Works Department, which operated in Victoria from 1855 to 1987, was responsible for the design of Victoria’s major public buildings and provision of furnishings to its offices as well as residences where the need was required.301 The keepers’ quarters at Cape Otway Lightstation were supplied with two of the same sideboards, which remain there today; on is intact (COLS 0001), the other missing the backboard (COLS 0015). Two similar but plainer examples, which are probably earlier in date, also remain at Cape Schanck (CSLS 0007.3; CSLS 0009.3). The Cape Nelson sideboard has first level contributory significance as a fine example of the good quality domestic furnishings made by the Victorian Government and provided to lighthouse keepers and their families in the late nineteenth century. This door plate was found at 28 Spence Street, Warrnambool by the builder Ray Hollingsworth, when he was renovating the building for the Warrnambool Presbyterian Church in June 2019. He realized that the inscription had been placed there by Leslie O'Callaghan, probably when he left the premises in 1942 after boarding there for some years. Leslie O'Callaghan (1918-2014) was born in Balmoral and left there at the age of 13 with a scholarship to study at Warrnambool Technical School. He became an industrial chemist, working at the Kraft Walker Cheese Factory in Allansford (Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory). His experimental work in cheese cultures over a 45 year period was regarded as cutting edge work in the Victorian dairying industry. Known as 'Mr History', Leslie O'Callaghan was also an important Warrnambool historian, serving as president of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society for 35 years. In later life Les wrote about his time in 28 Spence Street, noting the lay-out of the early building and other boarders at the time. He never mentioned the interesting memento of his time there that he left on the back of a door plate. The Warrnambool and District Historical Society Archives Centre is called 'Les O'Callaghan History House'This door plate with its inscription was found 77 years after the inscription was written. It is of considerable interest because the writer of the inscription was well-known in Warrnambool as a bacteriologist and an historian. He left his own personal historical message and by sheer chance it was found years later. (All the old door plates at the time of the renovation were thrown out and it was fortunate that the builder happened to see the writing on one of them and to recognize who the writer was.)This is a cream-coloured ceramic door plate. It is rectangular-shaped with curved edges at the top and bottom. It has been painted white and has two holes at the top and bottom for the insertion of screws for a5taching the plate to the door. This is a peephole from a solitary confinement cell cell at Port Arthur. There were 12 cells, measuring 3m x 1.5m, used for solitary confinement. The last swing door train was withdrawn from service in 1973. The third track on this line was commissioned in 1971. The overpass bridge was built at this time. These types of metal and glass railway signal lamps were used for communication, safety and lighting by train guards, shunters and signalmen, as well as station staff in the late 1880s to the early 1900s. They were hand operated and used fuel such as kerosene.The railway signal lamp has local significance as part of a set of three lamps donated by a resident of Wodonga who worked for the Victorian Railways. It also has national significance as an example of communication and safety equipment used by the railways in Australia in the late 19th century and early 20th century.Black painted metal signal lamp with a clear glass lens secured at the front and one thin elongated oval shaped handle showing at the back. The metal appears to be tin plated iron under the black paint layer. There is an oval plate with an embossed inscription on the proper left side of the lamp that is partly covered by the door at the front which holds the clear glass lens.
