Photograph shows tramway traffic inspectors looking at Gibson ticket machine that has caused a strike at the Footscray bus depot over the use of one-man buses. Details of the event are give in the Melbourne Herald 20/11/1953 - see first reference for the Trove link. The strike also stopped the tram services. Des Shooter Union Delegate was suspended over the issue - Reference trove link 2 and 3 for for developments of the story. This book which was printed in 1984 gives not only the geology of the area but also the history of the various areas that Jacksons Creek and the Saltwater River now known as the Maribyrnong River pass through. There are many drawings and photos accompanying the information relating to the various areas and buildings researched in this book. From Sunbury to Williamstown some of the names and places mentioned include John Aitken, George Evans, William J.T. Clarke, Ben Eadie, Rupertswood, Goonawarra Vineyard, Organ Pipes, Glenara, Walter Clark, Keilor, Overnewton, Avondale Heights, Solomons ford, Riverview Tea Gardens, Anglers Hotel, Aberfeldie Park, Humes Pipe Works, Powder Magazine, Maribyrnong, Munitions factories, Footscray Park, Flemington, Footscray, Yarraville, Newport, Williamstown, Commonwealth reserve, the blue stone lighthouse. A small cream/olive green colour covered printed book of 74 pages. The front cover shows part of a pen and wash drawing of a homestead. It has the name of the book and the author Hugh Anderson printed at the top of the cover and Sunbury to the Sea printed at the bottom. Victorian Bands' LeagueProgramme, Victorian Bands' League: Champion Concert Band, 1957
This programme dates from 1957 when the VBL formed a large brass band made up of the finest brass band musicians from across the state. This band was conducted by the great Harry Shugg of which was probably one of his last engagements before his passing. The musicians came from a number of brass bands including Malvern Municipal, Kingsville & Yarraville, Hawthorn, Preston, Ballarat, Thompson's Foundary, St John's Ambulance, Coburg, the Red Cross and Footscray, This propgramme is significant as it highlights the activities of the Victorian Bands' League when they presented major events. The list of names on the forth page of the program display a who's who of banding at the time. All showing the return destination of Russell St. .1 - Shows the shops in the background. Trolley pole reversed and appears the driver is about to enter the cab of the tram. Has the run number F6. Has a Caltex, Ampol, Kix and Caravan park sign in the background. .2 - 182 at the terminus with trolley pole reversed and under the wheel locating guard. Has Run No. F5 in the rear cabin window. .3 - ditto, but before trolley pole reversed with passengers leaving the car and one lady waiting to board. Printed on Fujichrome paper.
