Lucelle Hats advertised itself from the late 1940s to the 1960s as a high-class millinery business situated at 80 Castlereigh Street, Sydney. The style of the hat conforms to the generally smaller and flatter styles promoted as fashionable in 1950s periodicals. Interestingly velvet and felt hats were by the mid-1950s being advertised as suited to mature women. As the wearing of hats became more infrequent in the post-war period, this was the demographic that remained committed to wearing hats.The Kew Historical Society’s fashion and design collection is comprised of costumes, hats, shoes and personal accessories. Many of these items were purchased or handmade in Victoria; some locally in Kew. The extensive hat collection comprises items dating from the 1860s to the 1970s. Most of the hats in the collection were created by milliners for women. There are however a number of early and important men’s hats in the collection. This item was collected as a souvenir of a fund raising concert at the National Vietnams Veterans Museum. The entertainers who performed signed the hat : Marcia Jones, Lisa Edwards, Mae Parker and Wendy Stapleton. A fur felt khaki Army slouch hat with a seven fold khaki band (puggaree). the brim of the hat is bound in cross grain ribbon and turned up left hand side with a leather chin strap and internal leather band. Woodrow Hats, Piccadily, were the makers of fine felt bowler hats. Associated with men's formal wear of the 1940's. Round black fur felt bowler hat with upturned brim and black decorative bow and ribbon around the base of the crown. Internal crown has a leather in-lining. The box is hard cardboard with branding on the front in a brown square : London Hats and a crown logo above this wording. Inside the hat around the crown is a leather in-lining sheath which states "The Myer Store for Men". The inside crown base has a branding which indicates : "Woodrow Hats and Crown and Lion logo, fur felt, The Myer Shop for Men, The Isis, The Woodrow".

It is linked to the Young Chinese League.This hat is significant for its links to the Chinese Young League. The League was formally established on 4 October 1932 to to promote free social intercourse and goodwill among its members and their mutual improvement. Membership was open to all persons, with one or both parents or grandparents born in China. Wives of Chinese members were permitted as members with the same privileges. It was a significant social organisation for Chinese-Australians in Melbourne in the mid to late twentieth century.A red, purple and blue silk, six paneled hat embroidered with gold braid and adorned with mirrors.
