From Box 3 Colbinabbin dated 1-11-73 telling of family activities. (ii) A handwritten letter on pink writing paper from Mrs Janice McGowan, 3 Churchill Ave., Flora Hill, Bendigo. Handwritten notes on Big Hill Tunnel. Written by Lydia Chancellor after she saw a picture of a diesel locomotive pictured in the Bendigo Advertiser on March 22nd 1968. It brought back memories of picnics and they would walk through this tunnel. If the photo taken 1900, in 1900 this would be how old the children would have been, Agnes (17), George (12), Lydia (11) and William (7). George Box, of Sussex England, his wife Mary Cripps Box and 3 three of their 4 four sons and 3 three of their 4 four daughters left Liverpool in the Sailing Ship 'Atlanta' in March 1856 to begin a new life in Melbourne, Victoria , Australia Their baby daughter Cecilia Lydia died a few days later. Caroline Box, the eldest daughter, remained in England . working as a cook until she joined the family in Australia in 1863 Box Cottage Museum, a reconstruction of an early settler hut, is named after the Box family who resided there 1865 -1913 .
