H M S TRUMP was ordered on the 20th December 1941, laid down 31st December 1942 , launched 25th March 1944 and commissioned 8th July 1944. She was built by the Vickers Armstrong Company at Barrow in Furness (England). She saw action in various conflicts with her service in Australia. H M S TRUMP was finally scrapped at Newport - Wales in August 1971.Historical significance.Plaster and wooden plaque. Historical Details: The Museum’s Viscount was built in 1958 as a V.818 and was delivered to the Cuban National Airline, CUBANA, as CU-T622 in August 1959. During its Cuban service the Viscount is thought to have acted occasionally as the personal transport of Cuban Dictator. This is a set of 13 photographs taken in 1985* during reconnaissance of locations in regions of the Northern Territory. Later that year, Operation NERVOSE 85 was mounted by 4 Fd Svy Sqn in the EAST ARNHEM, VICTORIA RIVER DOWNS AND DALY WATERS areas of the Northern Territory from 26 May to 18 Sep 85. The aim of Operation NERVOSE 85 was to finalise the horizontal and vertical control for mapping at a scale of 1:50,000, to field check 40x 1:50,000 preliminary maps and to obtain mapping photography in support of the RAAF TINDAL redevelopment project. *Note –These photos were most likely taken in 1985, contrary to the ‘1987’ date annotated on the negative sleeves. The Op NERVOSE 85 Project Report available on RASVY’s web site lists a nominal roll of personnel. Photos of 4 Fd Svy Sqn taken in 1985 and 1987 provide names of posted personnel. Zilles Printers was begun by Lewis Zilles in the early 1930s. It was in McKenzie Street Ballarat. His son Jeffrey also became a printer - letterpress, offset and screen printer. The business became Zilles Printers/Graphics and was in Armstrong Street and later Bell Street Ballarat. Darryl James Rowe was a qualified instrument repairer. He specialized in Vintage car instruments on dash boards. These would include speedometers, car clocks, ammeters, oil gauges, ignition switches, temperature gauges, glass tube fuel gauges and dials repaired. He was located in Vickers Street Sebastopol. The Bethanga Bridge was built between 1927 and 1930 as a joint venture between Victoria and New South Wales and was a key element of the River Murray Waters Agreement. It consists of nine spans of 82 metres long. Each span is supported between double reinforced concrete pylons and a riveted steel camel back Pratt truss. The overall span of the bridge is a length of 752 metres. It was completed in 1929 at a cost of £194,000. The road deck was initially constructed from timber but was replaced in 1961 with a concrete waffle slab deck 7.7metres wide. In 1961 the bridge deck and truss structure were raised 300 millimetres to allow for the enlargement of the lake. The bridge was designed in NSW by road engineer Percy Alan and the trusses were built by the Charles Ruwolt Pty. Ltd. Charles Ruwolt Pty. Ltd. was originally established by Charles Ruwolt as a foundry at Wangaratta in 1902 and transferred its operations to Richmond, Melbourne in 1914. By 1938 it had become one of the biggest engineering companies in Australia. After Charles Ruwolt’s death in 1946, Vickers Ltd. acquired the company and in 1948 the firm became known as Vickers Ruwolt Pty. Ltd. Because of the Bethanga Bridge’s unique location, over the waters of a dam with the border running down the centre of the body of water, the Bethanga Bridge is the only built structure shared by both Victoria and New South Wales. As the border of New South Wales aligns with the southern bank of the Murray River all of the other bridges along its length are deemed to be in New South Wales. The Bethanga Bridge is listed on both the New South Wales State Heritage Register and the Victorian Heritage Database.
