A3 size poster, photocopied with cartoon drawings of a MTA (Metropolitan Transport Authority) crew member and a passenger who waited 30 mins. for a tram and complaining. MTA crew member explains shortage of crews and blames MTA and Minister Tom Roper (Transport Minister at the time) - mid 1980's. On base of poster is "AUTHORISED BY THE WORKERS AT THE SOUTH MELBOURNE DEPOT". Article by Carolyn Varley of Rockhampton, discussing her visit to Ballarat and the work being done by the people in Rockhampton for the restoration of the Purrey Steam Tram at the same time. Demonstrates the Museum's ticketing systems and ongoing production of tickets.Block of 200 tickets - red ink on off white paper, denomination 5c, lettered A 199800 to A 199999, headed Ballarat Tourist Tramway. The 200 tickets have been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple. The tickets are in the style of the former State Electricity Commission of Victoria tramway tickets. Tickets in use as Museum entry tickets from mid 1972 at the depot, then as child single tickets in 1974 to 1975. See BTM Fare Chart. Also used as tickets for other purposes such as check tickets and 50c tickets over stamped, cash received checks as donations for many years. Printed 1971? Newspaper clipping from The Courier, Ballarat, dated Thursday 6/8/1971, titled "Council to count cost of saving some trams". Item reports on the request by the Ballarat Tramway Preservation Society (BTPS) to approve in principle, the operation of a working tramway museum in the Gardens Reserve and the use of Wendouree Parade. Notes which tramcars had been allocated to the BTPS by the SEC. Report from the tourism committee, Cr. J. A. Chisholm. Also noted work by Mr. Tom Evans MLA in Securing the SEC depot for temporary storage of the trams. One of large group of newspaper cuttings from John Bainbridge, 7/4/02. Seventy two page photocopied document within card covers and outer plastic covers with an additional introduction page between front clear plastic cover and card cover bound with a white comb binder. Book titled "Tramway Permanent Way" presenting a series of lectures by MMTB Per Way officers in 1928 at Hawthorn Depot. Contents in order: 1. Handwritten note from Chris Jacobson on Metropolitan Transit Authority of Victoria memo paper forwarding a copy to Warren Doubleday of the BTPS in Feb. 1988, with date received stamp at depot of 19/2/1988. 2. Photocopy of a memo on Metropolitan Transit letterhead from K. C. Painter dated 20/7/1987 to the Civil Engineering Design drafting staff forwarding a copy of the 1928 lectures to the then current staff. 3. Photocopy of a circular from J.P. Strickland, Chief Engineer to track inspectors, sub overseers, overseers and senior gangers advising that a series of weekly lectures on track work would be held at Hawthorn Depot commencing 23/1/1928. 4. Lecture notes: 1. Interpretation of Drawings 2. Alignment etc 3. Alignment continued and special work 4. The drainage system 5. Concrete 6. Rails and Fastenings 7. Welding 8. Timber 9. Sixteen page Colouring book - A4 size, formed from folded 4 No. A3 size sheets stapled together with eight drawings to be coloured in or other activities prepared by David Frost. Prepared originally in about 1988, placed on sale at the depot in 1989. Has drawings of California Combination tramcars, Toastrack trams, Bogie trams, One-man trams, a maze drawing for the horse tram, a join the dots drawing, decode this message and a mathematical problem. Copies on sale prepared by photocopying. Demonstrates the last timetable issued for Ballarat Tramways and yields information about tram services.285 - Three page photo copy of the final timetable for tram services in Ballarat for the SECV issued March 1970. Page 1 - Sunday, p2 - Saturday, p3 - weekdays. Gives IN and OUT times for each route and notes if from depot etc. Understood to be SECV photocopy. 285.1 - ditto, but actual wax stencil copy on duplicating paper used by Driver / Conductor J. Everett. Has been folded into 8. This copy used in image files. Item added 2/2/2003. 285.2 - ditto - three copies of SECV copies given to the BTPS at the time of closure. Staple horizontally in top left hand corner and marked in ink - see Inscriptions. Items added 9/3/2004. 285.3 - ditto wax stencil or duplicated copy - unmarked. Yields information about the closure of the SEC operated Ballarat system - presented in an unorganised manner and without newspaper dates.Set of about 6 newspaper clippings glued to a sheet of lined paper. Cuttings from the Ballarat Courier, date from around 23 August 1971 following the closure of the Victoria St lines and part of the Gardens route. Includes a poem titled "Vale, the Tramways!", written by SMP, an item by a staff report going to to school by tram in Victoria St and Sturt St ""Will miss the tram". Other items "Work begins on Lake Route" about the BTPS agreement with Council, quotes Paul Nicholson, removal of parking meters, derailment at the depot, and bus stop signs being damaged.
