Desk set made of wood from St Paul's Cathedral with an added metal and enamel calendar. A history of the item is stuck on the reverse. "St Paul's Cathedral Melbourne. Foundation stone, 1880; Consecrated, 1891; Spires completed, 1931; Exterior length, 317'; Moorhouse Spire, 317 feet in height. The Bells of St Paul's Cathedral were supported on this timber of English oak from 1891 to 1963 when, during the absence of the bells for tuning in Loughborough, England, the timber was replaced with a steel frame. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo. A shipping or travelling trunk c. 1930 belonging to Fr Patrick O'Dowd Administrator of St Patrick's Cathedral Ballarat 1948 - 1953. Fr O' Dowd, a native of Koroit was ordained by Bishop Foley at the Cathedral in 1922 and served widely throughout western Victoria. Typical of trunks used by clerics across the western districts of Victoria in the 19th and 20th centuries as due to their constant relocations, these held all their personal belongings.Paper label affixed to side of trunk is addressed: "P. All Saints in McKenzie Street was opened in 1856 (nave) and was the Anglican Parish Church until 1902 when the Bendigo diocese was established. At this time it was designated a cathedral. Five swinging bells were installed at Sacred Heart Cathedral in September 2001 and were rung for the first time 30/9/2001. The cast bronze bells were made in France and their eventual size and tones were decided based on the size of the belfry. The bells are each named after a saint; St Liborius, St Augustine, St Patrick, Mother of Good Counsel, and Blessed Mary McKillop.Newspaper article from 2001 written by Monsignor John Duffus, Sacred Heart Cathedral. On 07 November 1920 a plaque to commemorate Australians who defended Amiens between March and August 1918 was fixed to a pillar in the Amiens Cathedral. A church service for Legacy widows at St Patrick's Cathedral in Melbourne. This is an annual event for Legacy widows at the start of Legacy Week, which is the first week in September. The church used for the service varies. The service is followed by a pilgrimage to the Shrine for another service and also a social lunch for the widows. The photos show the Legacy flag and Australia flag being carried in by junior Legatees and President David Millie and George Woodward being part of the procession. Originally a parish church, St Paul's became a cathedral in 1981 when Bendigo was declared a separate diocese. The church, designed by Robert A Love, was dedicated in 1868, with the bells being added in 1873 and the organ in 1883.
