A photo of Santa and Melbourne Legacy President Bill Braidie with children and gifts in one the residences (either Stanhope, Harelands or Blamey House - Kew) in 1974. Photo came from a folder marked Residences. Melbourne Legacy ran residences to take care of children whose deceased father had been a serviceman and the mother was unable to care for them herself or the child needed to be in city for education reasons. The first was Holmbush which started in 1942. Then Stanhope in 1945, these were for older children for education or vocational opportunities. There was a need for a toddler/younger child home so Blamey House was established in Beaumaris in 1947 for 3 to 9 year olds. Harelands was acquired in 1950. Then the property in Beaumaris was sold and the name Blamey House was transferred to Holmbush, at 1267 Burke Road Kew from 1956 to 1978. For much of the time from late 1950s to 1970s Harelands accommodated boys and girls under the age of 14, Blamey House looked after boys over 14, and Stanhope looked after girls over 14. The children were cared for until they were old enough to become independent. Various invitations, programmes and other mementos collected from Legacy events held during the early 1960's. These include invitations and tickets to the Annual Demonstrations of 1960 and 1961, the ANZAC eve school children's ceremony, also to the Senior Widows Club Grand concert (18 December 1961). The Senior Widows club also held a Christmas Dinner. Also a lapel tag for the Legacy Mothers Club. There are also mementos for Junior Legatees, such as tickets to attend the Christmas party at Government House and to Operation Float in 1962 and 1963. There are also tokens for ice creams and soft drinks at the events. There is a programme for the 1961 Annual Demonstration.A collection compiled to remember various events held in the early 1960s. The 6 pages have event invitations, notices and cards glued to the brown paper, 4 pages are double sided. This item was likely made for the purposes of welcome signage at a Comradeship Christmas party. Comradeship meetings were very important to the Legatees. Legacy have many programs to send young junior legatees on activities, camps and outings. The photo show a group preparing to head away somewhere. Photos from what appears to be the same roll of film were a Legacy Leadership Group Christmas party in December 2002 but can't match the people for certain. It was stored with other photos of Junior Legatees from the 1980s and 1990s. This series of photos all depict Burke Museum curator Beryl Witkowski. The invitation was created in 2005, the other photographs seem to be throughout Beryl Witkowski's career, however it is not possible to determine exactly what date they are from. The photographs show Beryl in front of the main museum building, standing beside exhibits, receiving awards and holding antiques.This series of photographs are centred around the Burke Museum curator Beryl Witkowski. The collection consists of an invitation that features mid-2000s photo editing and numerous photographs of Beryl throughout her career. The invitation provides artistic/ aesthetic significance for its interesting photo editing technique, as photo editing was becoming increasingly popular during this time. Socially, the collection of photographs are significant to the community of Beechworth and to the Burke Museum.
