Melbourne Legacy
Newspaper - Article, Salute to a Legacy Veteran, 1988
A newspaper article published in The Sun on 25 March 1988 as Legacy was preparing to celebrate the a Legacy reunion featuring Miss Enez Domec-Carre who was turning 80. Enez was the supervisor of the girls classes held at Legacy House for many years - 38 years according to this article. She organised many annual demonstrations and was held in high regard by Legacy. The library at Legacy House is named in her honour. See also a newspaper article at 00978 which outlines her achievements, a summary of her career at 00458 and 00129. She was a former Miss Victoria and was known for her physical education skills and for introducing grace and culture to Melbourne. In 1932 she joined Melbourne Legacy as assistant to Mrs Gilles (wife of a Legatee) later became the chief instructor of girls' physical education until she retired aged 65. In the post World War II baby boom the Legacy evening classes were attended by about 400 girls. She helped organise Legacy Widows and Legatee wives to sew the costumes for performances. Among her proudest moments was a display by 1000 Junior Legatees at the MCG during the 1954 visit of Queen Elizabeth II. As well her work for Legacy she ran physical education, ballroom dancing and debutante preparation classes.A record that Legacy was saluting the hard work of Miss Domec-Carre in 1988.Newspaper cutting about Miss Enez Domec-Carre in 1988.girls' classes, enez domec carre -

Document, Enez Domec-Carre
Items are part of a collection of Legacy items from Valma Hutchinson (nee Wigg), a former junior legatee. Valma was accepted into Junior Legacy club in 1940 when she was about 10 years old. She had collected the newspaper clippings of notices in the newspapers for Miss Carre's 90th birthday and also her death notices. The sentiments expressed show how much she was respected by the former Junior Legacy girls. The photocopy includes a picture of 90th birthday celebrations for Miss Carre at Legacy house. A copy of the photo of the girls at Mt Evelyn camp had already been received from Valma Hutchinson (nee Wigg) and is at 01437. It is mentioned that she and her good friend June were in the photo and would have been 16 at the time. Miss Carre is also seen, seated wearing red, in the photo of L/- Grattan's 100th. More photos of Legatee Grattan's 100th are at 00964. A note sent to Legacy with the items mentions Legatee Grattan walked Valma down the aisle at her wedding and that Valma and her daughter would frequently put flowers on his plot in Springvale cemetery. An example of the long term friendship of Junior Legatees that they attend reunions and stay in contact. Also of their esteem for former Girls' Class trainer, Miss Carre and their appointed Legatee.Photocopy of items about Miss Carre, a photo of Legatee Grattan's 100th celebrations and a photo of a Girls Camp at Mt Evelyn in 1946. Also copies of the letter that accompanied the items donated and Legacy's reply letter.01719.2 Photo has 'Legacy Girls Camp at Mount Evelyn May 1946' on reverse in black pen. 01719.3 Photo has 'Legatee Grattan 100th birthday at Legacy House Melb. 20.9.1994' on reverse in blue penjunior legatee, girls' classes -

Photograph, Former JL and legatees, 1993
A photo and two hand written notes about a former Legacy Girls' Class attendant in 1993. It appears there was a visit by a legatee and a legatee's wife to a former junior legatee, showing that people kept in contact with Legacy for a long time. The photo shows Florence Moore (nee Moll) and her husband Bert being visited by Legatee George Standish and Jane Sullivan, who was the wife of Legatee John Sullivan (President in 1991). The note with the photo says it was for the archive in 1993. The handwritten letter from the Moores says: Dear George (Standish), . . . Enclosed is the photo I promised to send you we are Bert and Florence Moore (nee Moll). . . We enjoyed the day very much and it was sad news to learn that Flo Kennedy (one of the original Legacy girls) had passed away. Regards, Bert and Florence. In an article in the Bulletin 1979 after a reunion it is mentioned that Florence Moore (nee Moll) was the first girl to enrol in classes and senior champion in 1928.A record of a Junior Legatees being in contact with Legacy for a long time.Photo of Flo and Bert Moore with Jane Sullivan and George Standish.Handwritten on the notes on the back 'Florence Moll (Now Moore) knew Flo Kennedy.
