A photo of Operation Firewood which provided help to widows by supplying and stacking firewood for the winter. Photo shows a truck being loaded with wood at a depot, believed to be 1987. Legacy provided this for many years, with the help of Linfox who provided the trucks. In the June 1995 edition of The Answer Melbourne Legacy thanked the Cobram/Yarrawonga Group for their help in supplying and cutting the wood over many years. In 1996 it was announced the scheme had ended.A record of Legacy helping widows with supplying and stacking firewood. Wreath laying ceremony for Legacy widows at the Cenotaph at the Shrine of Remembrance. This is an annual event for Legacy widows at the start of Legacy Week, which is the first week in September. The day is referred to as Widows' Sunday or pilgrimage to the Shrine. The photos shows the Melbourne Legacy President Graham Riches speaking from a podium near the Eternal Flame and Cenotaph. A function in Legacy House attended by widows and legatees. It is assumed to be 2001 as it was with a bunch of other photos with the label, "Badge Launch 2001". Legatee George Woodward (President in 1994) holds a wooden spoon and appears to be entertaining the ladies, Legatee Ray Ward (President 1996) is in 00597.4, and Legatee Tony Parkes (President 2002) is making a speech in 00597.5. The lady in blue is Dulcie Cedaro and Glad Fenton is standing next to her, both are Legacy widows and active in the Widows' club committees.A record of a function for widows. The Melbourne Legacy Leadership Group was formed by junior legatees who had become adults. They ran functions for junior legatees in a spirit of service that emulated the work of Legatees. This photo appears to be from the early 2000s. Legacy have many programs to send young junior legatees on activities, camps and outings. The location could be Queensland from the processing mark on the back saying 'Noosa D&N'. The date is not known. It was stored with other photos of Junior Legatees from the 1980s and 1990s. Legacy widow Nancy Ayres won a Bronze medal at the World Masters Games in 2002 - possibly for the 50 Freestyle in 75-79 age group. She was 79 at the time. She also swam in the 100m and 200m freestyle races. According to the note it seems she was profiled in The Answer issue in December 2002. Later she went on to be part of a 4 x 50m relay team that set a world record in 2012, where the combined age of the 4 team members had to equal at least 360 years, swimming the race in 5 minutes and 45 seconds.It shows that Legacy celebrated the achievements of the widows in their care.Colour photo of Nancy Ayres.Printed on back
