Traffic will not be permitted to proceed where no clearing is being carried out. Apart from this, it is hoped that it will not be necessary to curtail any further the general arrangements in force last winter. During this summer the road will be closed to visitors generally, but arrangements will be made for working parties at ski huts to proceed to or from Falls Creek between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays only, provided that prior arrangements have been made.winter olympics 1952, road access to falls creek 1952 -

The lower mid-winter temperatures are mainly responsible for the crisp skiing atmosphere offered us during that month. It is surprising therefore to find that bookings for July this year are unusually light at all Victorian resorts. Skyline Lodge in particular, with its good transport, easy access, and usually abundant snow cover has everything to offer keen skiers: at present there are vacancies in its booking list through the month. Map - Sun Valley, Falls Creek, 1966
This hand drawn map shows the Gully Chair, Summit Tow and the Village Tow. It also highlights the Nursery Poma. Several buildings can be seen along with the Visitor Centre in the Gully carpark, Skyline can can be seen adjacent to the Gully Chair. The Sun Valley T-Bar was designed by Ron McCallum and began operation in 1967. It had a length of 826 metres and an elevation of approximately 200 metres. In 1989 the Sun Valley T-Bar was replaced by the Scott Quad. Ron McCallum was a founder of Alpine Developments. It appears that his first lift was the Skyline portable tow at Falls Creek in 1954. As an engineer, he went on to build about 20 chairlifts and T-bars in the 1960s and early 1970s including at least five at Falls Creek. This map is significant because it shows plans for the development of a major tow at Falls Creek in the 1960s.A framed black and white concept map for the proposed new lift in Sun Valley, Falls Creek.sun valley tow, ron mccallum, falls creek tows -

Journal - Schuss Vol. 20. No. 7 September - October 1954

The structure was erected by Joe Holston with the aid of a few simple tools. It's rustic craftsmanship has always been admired and served to remind skiers of the kindliness and good nature of Joe, who befriended many skiers who visited the High Plains in past years.schuss journal, the ski club of victoria, mt kckay, bogong high plains -

Snow was ample, though soft, and care had to be taken till it was ironed out. The members reported very favorably on the hot shower installed by the working party at Easter, as also on the other facilities of Skyline. Falls Creek was particularly busy with skiers as every lodge in the village seemed crammed with members of the respective clubs all rarin' to go on the slopes. With Ski-Tow, Canteen, and many other attractions, there seems every promise that once again Falls Creek will enjoy a skiing season lasting well into November with delightful spring conditions to satisfy the keenest skiers.schuss journal, the ski club of victoria, skyline lodge -

Then don't forget to arrange through the Club office for a permit from the State Electricity Commission to use the Kiewa Road. And while at the office study the copy of the Commission's Kiewa Regulations which will be found on the notice board. We are sure that you will enjoy a stay at Skyline Lodge and a visit to the delightful terrain of Falls Creek and the High Plains equally well in summer as in winter; and the S.E.C. requirements are easy for members to comply with. As this consolidated more was added, till there was some 15 to 20 tons of packed snow on the roof. It also caused some damage which will require repairs in the spring; assistance from members is required in this work. This unusual depth of snow ensures skiing on the slopes above Skyline till well into the summer months. schuss journal, victorian championships 1955, skyline lodge
