In 1927 the Duke and Duchess of York (later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth) visited Australia. The Port Melbourne Council established a Strong Post in St Kilda Road to welcome the royal couple. Standing third and fourth from left Mrs CRICHTON, holding an Australian flag, and Cr J P CRICHTON. The tall man in centre of photograph looking at the camera is S S ANDERSON, Town Clerk. Second from right is Cr William HOWE, Mayor. City of Port Phillip instigated the competition re the 'no-name' plaza in October 1999, and the winner was announced 14 Nov at the PMH&PS's 'Lee-ar-day Days' event. Judging panel (Cr Julian Hill, Bruce McKeon and Pat Grainger) met 8.11.1999 to decide winner.Eight pages used in judging the 1999 naming competition for the reserve at Bay and Liardet Streets that through this process became known as 'Olives Corner' (or more formally, Olive Zakharov's corner'). These papers were originally in a hidden compartment of the large timber Nott Street School Honour Board, now in the foyer of Port Melbourne Town Hall. This Board was originally located in the Infant School building. During the 1970s, Cr. Perce WHITE had been Chairman of the School Committee and had been aware of the "secret" compartment and its contents.In the early 1990s, Perce obtained the support of Port Melbourne City Council in recognising the necessity of ensuring that the Board and it's contents were protected for posterity. Accordingly, when the school closed in 1993, it was arranged with the Education Department for it to be relocated to the Port Melbourne Town Hall. unfinished book - Roll of Honour (Honor) of soldiers 1914 - 18 who attended Nott St school.
