There is no information on the name of the depositor. Part of a collection of business documents found under the floor of a building in Main Street when it was being renovated. At that time the owner was Don Chambers, and the premises was occupied as the Chambers Riteway Supermarket. The location (134 Main Street) is currently (2022) occupied by Miegel’s Pharmacy Rutherglen. The Sphinx was a magazine of Durham University students published between 1905-1922, except for the period between July 1914 and the end of 1918. This volume appears to be a collection of the cartoons originally published in that magazine. This linoleum is in-situ in one of the rooms of the house at Days Mill. Newspaper laid underneath indicates the linoleum was laid after September 1910.PATTERNED LINOLEUM : A floor covering made from materials such as solidified linseed oil (linoxyn), pine rosin, ground cork dust, wood flour, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate, most commonly on a burlap or canvas backing. This piece has a cream & light grey mosaic type background with circular brown leaf repeating patterns interlaced into four square blue shapes. Central star pattern within circular leaf pattern in light & dark blues & browns. Stylised floral motif in between each circular & square shaped pattern repeats.

Found in an above ground rubbish pile at Days Mill & Farm.Tall cylinder with a handle and a spout on either side and a hinged lid at the top made of blue/grey coloured enamel with white flecks. Extensive rust.
