The main gate to the former Gaol is a monumental work. The arch keystone facing Lydiard Street is beautifully executed. The gates and the iron lacework over the top are distinctive.The arch under the flyover is also distinctive; the basalt keystone appears to have been cut from one single block of stone. Most of the gaol has been demolished to allow the School of Mines Ballarat to expand onto the site. The remaining structures at the site include the main gate, warden's residence and governor's residence. Grace Watson married Arthur Cowley at Holy Trinity Anglican Church Murtoa on May 22nd, 1954. Alice Watson, her sister was bridesmaid. This railway station building was erected in 1887 and closed in 1990. Now a new chapter begins with a newly restored station building amd platform that re-opened in October 2010 to be used by the Wycheproof Community.The Wycheproof Railway station constructed by Hossack & Brown in 1887 is Heritage listed and is on the Government Buildings Register. This photo is one of only a few available of the early days of the Station.The complex is historically significant at a State level AHC A.4. The Railway station contains significant detailing such as in the turned timber posts and overall composition. This early photo of Wycheproof railway station, shows a construction of timber with corrugated iron clad roof,in c.1904. Features of the design are the timber verandah posts with decorative elements which include chamfers and supporting diagonal timber brackets. The gabled roof has finials on the east and west ends. Shows a bluestone house surrounded by lush, well-developed garden. House is in good order with 4 chimneys, a porch and water-tank. To the left, partially obscured by the shrubbery stands the bearded Rev.Wagg with hat. To the right is a girl around ?10 years old, with parasol and hat in her hands. This was Mortlakes' Anglican Vicarage from c. 1886 to c.1916 when present one was built next to St.James church in Shaw Street. House stood in Sagnol's paddock (Waggs Lane) until 1950's when it was demolished reportedly by a group of boys using dynamite!) Rev. Wagg was a long-serving and well-regarded Anglican minister who served Mortlake from 1886 to1916. Wagg's Lane takes its name from his former residency there. A new Vicarage was built c.1916 next to the church.
