The men in the photograph are former councillors and they are at an ordinary meeting of the Shire of Bulla council, which took place on 15th July 1974 at the Old Shire Offices in Bulla. Council usually met at the Council Offices in Sunbury but there were times when they met at the Old Shire Offices in Bulla. Ambrose Murrell (c.1834-1891) migrated to Victoria in the early 1850s and owned a hotel or hotels at Happy Valley, before he and his wife Mary (nee May) bought the Victoria Hotel in Linton around 1881. Alec Sandner was a Strathfieldsaye Shire Councillor from 1982 -1987, Strathfieldsaye Shire President from 1985 – 86 and Mayor of COG Bendigo 2011 - 2012. These name badges would have been worn during official events, such as council meetings. Three name badges worn by Alec Sandner while serving on the Shire of Strathfieldsaye Council. Gideon Nicol (1836-1908) was a seaman who came to Warrnambool in 1858. In 1865 he selected land at Mount Warrnambool . He was one of the founders of the Farnham Cheese and Butter Factory and the Garvoc Cheese and Butter Factory and was a Shire Councillor from 1879 to 1906. These items will be useful to include in the Gideon Nicol file.These are scans of two pages from a book and an illuminated manuscript. One page is red with an ornate border and the other is blackish with an ornate border. Eltham Shire Councillor J. O. White farewells Councillor Albert F.C. Glover, ex President of the Shire of Eltham and Mrs Glover. Cr Glover served residents of the Montmorency ward from 1967. These albums are attributed to Carl Grove (1849-1939) , first selector at Newmerella, where he planted hops in the 1880's. He was an orbost Shire councillor for 25 years, helped to establish the library and the Mechanics Institute and was one of the first Orbost Butter Factory directors.These albums are significant mainly for their connection to Carl Grove.The collection of live plant specimens from the wild with correct labelling can provide a record to be used for research.Three large books of botanical specimens. During the last year of his presidency he played an important part in obtaining the severance of the Shire of Minhamite from the Belfast Shire.
