Nunawading Mayor, Dorothy Smith, turned the first sod to mark the start of the work for the new Strathdon Lodge, a 24 bed hostel for dementia sufferers. She officially opened a $1.4 million appeal for the hostel. Construction of Nunawading's first hostel for dementia sufferers is about to start. Last week a Federal Government Grant of $666,439 was received. Re-dedication of Mitcham War Memorial at Halliday Park. The memorial commemorates 143 Mitcham district men who served in World War I and ll who died. Halliday Park and the area around the memorial was redeveloped last year. Plaques were laid to commemorate the 50th anniversary of World War II and the men who fought in Korea, Malaysia and Vietnam.
