This is one of a series of eighteen plaques which commemorated some of the winner of the Grand Annual Steeplechase which is held each year in Warrnambool. The first Grand Annual was held in 1872 as the Warrnambool Handicap Steeplechase. Buxton was the winner in 1963. Local racing steward of 50 years experience, Mr Frank Beattie, ranks the performance of buxton as among the best. He won the Brierly steeplechase on the Tuesday of the 3 day race meeting and won the grand Annual two days later ridden by jockey Noel Cole. The Terminus Hotel was one of the earliest hotels in Wodonga, with clear links to the establishment of the railway line. It was an important business and meeting place from the original construction in 1873 until 1st June 1998 the Terminus Hotel when it was destroyed by fire. It provided a popular venue for social activities, including competitive darts, both through its own competition and as part of the Albury-Wodonga District Darts Association. The remains of the building were demolished in 1999. This is perpetual trophy for the Terminus Dart club based at the Terminus Hotel in Wodonga. This trophy recognises the winners of the Singles Championship from 1985 to 1992. Engravings on the front of the trophy indicate that the competition was held twice a year for most of the years recorded here.The Terminus Hotel was an important meeting place in Wodonga for more than 100 years. The 2005 winner - Leigh Howard, was a professional rider with Team Colombia in 2010 and is currently on the pro tour with Orica Green Edge (commencing 2012). Fred Moore was a long time holiday maker with a house in Robertson St, whose children continue to visit. This event is played on the long weekend in January and is very popular as non handicapped players can play. Draw for partners, no handicaps required, and it is a 12 hole event. These plaques commemorate the winner of the Warrnambool Brierly Steeplechase in 1965 and 1966. The owner of the horse was Mr D. Wedge, the horse was Regalo from New Zealand and the jockey was N. Rantall. The plaques were originally display items based in areas of the Warrnambool Racecourse. The Brierly Steeplechase was first run in 1902, with the name coming from a local property and homestead established by William McKiernin in the 1850s. Today the Brierly Steeplechase is part of the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival which features the famous Warrnambool Grand Annual Steeplechase. Team Road Races were a popular feature of club cycling in the Western District of Victoria during the second half of the 20th century. The shield was initiated by the Camperdown cycling club to record team winners of the races held between the clubs in the Western District of Victoria. This shield has an important place in the history of cycling in the Western District of Victoria. A large wooden shield with silver coloured plated plaques containing inscriptions of team winners of road races in the Western District of Victoria. There is a smaller shield in the centre of the shield depicting a cyclist and above and below this are banner like plaques with inscriptions on them. Many of the inscriptions have worn with age. Integral to the conceptual foundation of the work is the use of papers sourced from around the world. Paper is at once universal and individual, and in this instance is representative of humanking. The jigsaw design draws on the understanding that each piece is integral to the creation and resolution of the whole. Commanality is suggested through repetition, however, no two pieces are the samem emphasizinf the beautym strength and validity of difference. Established in 2004, generously supported by George Lucato, the Lucato Peace Prize was an annual acquisitive art award open to all enrolled Federation University Australia tertiary students and all senior secondary students enrolled at any City of Ballarat secondary school or college. Prizes were awarded to the applicants whose work best illustrates or expresses the idea that 'peaceful alternatives are always preferable to armed confrontations'. First prize of $2250.00 was awarded to Cassandra McArthur for her work, Commonality and Difference, 2014, and it was the last Lucato Peace Prize Awarded after the death of George Lucato in 2014. Galleywood was a crowd favourite of the 1980's winning two Brierly Steeplechases and the Grand Annual in 1986. A lawn bowls contest in 1990 held at East Malvern RSL lawn bowls Club. The winner of the Dallas Brooks Trophy was Andrew Tucker and he met the previous year's winner, Thomas Tucker (no relation). The event was held annually and was a fundraiser for Legacy and well as a social event for legatees. These plaques were once on display at the Warrnambool racecourse with the smaller one originally affixed to a seat. These plaques commemorate the winner of the Grand Annual Steeplechase in Warrnambool in 1931. The Warrnambool Grand Annual Steeplechase was first held in June 1872. Today it is part of the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival and is run over 5,500 metres with 32 fences. Cooliel won two Grand Annuals, in 1927 and 1929 where he was ridden by jockey W McInnes. he was owned by the Lindsays of Quamby where he died in 1930 after a successful career over the jumps.These plaques are of interest as mementoes of the Warrnambool Grand Annual Steeplechase one of Australia's most significant hurdle races..1 Silver coloured metal plaque in a rectangular shape with four holes in each corner for attachment to a surface. The date is assumed to be 1994 as that was the year George Woodward was president. From 1988 to 2021, Legacy held a public speaking contest for young secondary school students. It was initially called the Junior Plain English Speaking Award (JPESA) and later called Legacy Junior Public Speaking Award (LJPSA). Schools were eligible to send along up to 4 representatives to compete in a preliminary round. The following was taken from a programme in 1996: "The Award aim is to promote enhanced oral communication skills for 12-14 year old students and to help young people appreciate the ideals of Legacy - voluntary service, caring and comradeship - and the need for remembrance. It began in 1988 in the Melbourne area with the support of the Ministry of Education and The Plain English Foundation. Entries have grown from 24 in the 1988 competition to over 300 in schools across the State, plus greater numbers participating in the process of selecting four contestants from each school. In 1995, a successful Interstate Championship was held with contestants from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
