This was created for the annual Orbost Show 1975. It provides information to potential exhibitors. The first meeting to form an Agricultural society in Orbost was convened by the then Orbost Progress Association and held in the Mechanics Hall on Saturday, 10th October 1891. Its first show was held on 3rd March 1904...on a site alongside the Bonang Road where the present Golf Club stands. It is currently held at the Recreation Reserve at Newmerella. The four Maruni60 chairs are Japanese kit form self-assemble furniture (1961). Purchased from Anderson's furniture store in Chapel St Prahran, the store's back room was considered the coolest furniture showroom in Melbourne. Patricia Boyd had the cushions reupholstered to this purple fabric. These became quite fragile and broke several times and needed repair. The original chairs are currently stored offsite. T.R.B. Morton and other investors set up the Freehold Investment Company which set out the township of Blackburn in the 1880s. The Company folded in 1892 but T.R.B. Morton, as one of the liquidators continued auctioning off the land through his company, Morton and Coghill. He was a Nunawading Shire Councillor from 1888 to 1897 and 1899 to 1923, being Shire President four times. Recognising that warmed ether was less irritating to the airway and patients receiving it were less likely to experience shock, Francis Shipway developed the Shipway's apparatus which was used during World War 1 and continued to be used through to World War 2. Reduction of shock for patients who had experienced trauma was crucial to their later recovery, particularly during war times. This example of the Shipway's apparatus also has the facility for administering chloroform.A triangular metal stand with two glass jars sitting in a metal tub and a green metal jar that looks like a thermos, also sitting in a metal tub. A metal pole has been screwed into the centre point of the stand, with a circular top to act as a handle. One of the jars has a rubber stopper in the neck with metal tubing attached to the stopper. The other glass jar has a metal screw top with a dropper spout. The two glass jars are connected via red rubber tubing. This hand crafted doily, created during war time, features a side on image of a soldier holding a rifle with butt at his feet. In Victorian times, idle hands were frowned upon so women knitted and crocheted. In addition to their decorative function doilies have the practical role of protecting fine-wood furniture from the scratches caused by crockery or decorative objects, or from spilled tea when used on tea trays or with cups and saucers. Pies with top crusts need to be vented, to allow steam to escape. Funnel-style steam vents have been placed in the centre of fruit and meat pies during cooking since Victorian times. Pie funnels were used to prevent pie filling from boiling up and leaking through the crust by allowing steam to escape from inside the pie. They also supported the pastry crust in the centre of the pie, so that it did not sag in the middle, and are occasionally known as 'crust holders'. Older ovens had more problems with uniform heating, and the pie funnel prevented boil-over in pie cooking. The traditional inverted funnels, with arches on the bottom for steam to enter, were followed by ceramic birds; and from the 1940s they have been produced in a multitude of designs. Creigiau Pottery of South Wales produced a 'Welsh Pie Dragon' in copper lustreware. This trend has been particularly noticeable in recent times, due to their increasing popularity as gifts and collectors' items rather than simply utilitarian kitchen tools. From January 1959 and until 1982, “Cosmopolitan Motion Pictures”, owned by Mr Peter Yannoudes (Παναγιώτης Γιαννούδης) and Mr Stathis Raftopoulos (Στάθης Ραφτόπουλος) travelled around Australia to entertain the Greek, Turkish, Indian and Yugoslav speaking population of Australia and provide a significant cinema culture. They travelled as far as Perth in WA, Adelaide in SA, Tasmania, Darwin in Nt, Canberra in ACT and Sydney and NSW. However they found themselves also in places like Berri and Renmark in NSW, where concentrations of migrants lived and thrived during the period. Initially they were travelling by train, carrying all their equipment by hand and placing them in boxes and suitcases. However after 1962 when they acquired their first automobile, travelling became less of a burden, nevertheless cumbersome and laborious. They carried with them initially two portable projectors (second one as a backup) and at times travelled with a third in order to ensure that technology will not be letting them down at the time of film projection. Distinguish Flying Cross medal awarded to John Hudson WILKINSON 400444 born 18/2/1914 at Rutherglen. He was a Pharmaceutical Chemist prior to enlisting in the RAAF on 2/9/1940 He was reporting missing during air operations over East Prussia and later presumed to have lost his life on 30/8/1944 Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross - citation reads Pilot Officer Wilkinson is an air gunner of great ability and determination. He has taken part in a large number of operational sorties many of which have been against some of German's most heavily defended targets. On one occasion in March 1944 when engaged n an attack on Stuttgart a Junkers 88 attacked his aircraft five times but Pilot Officer Wilkinson by his accurate directions to his captain and coolly aimed return fire drove ff the enemy aircraft in a badly damaged condition. At all times his unwavering devotion to duty and constant alertness have inspired confidence in his crew. The Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) is the third-level military decoration awarded to officers, and since 1993 to other ranks, of the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force and other services, and formerly to officers of other Commonwealth countries, for "an act or acts of valour, courage or devotion to duty whilst flying in active operations against the enemy"Black case which opens out from right side. Differing gauges of transmission line was/is used in the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. Some carried 330KV, 220KV, 66KV (Mount Beauty to Bright) and (Clover to Mount Beauty) and 22KV. All the cables have a core of steel for strength and an aluminium outer layer for transmission. Examples include 66KV copper cable, copper earth wire from the towers, copper cable found along the aqueducts for telemetering and copper earth wire. The 24 Volt Communication cables were/are used for linking different sites on remote SEC equipment.The State Electricity Commission of Victoria constructed the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme during the late 1930's to 1960's. A wooden board with samples of differing gauges of transmission cables used for the transmission of power and 24 volt communication cables used for communication linking different sites on remote S.E.C. equipment. The cables No.s 1 to 9 have a core of steel for strength and an aluminium outer layer for transmission. The copper cables No.s 10 - 14 are used for earthing and are in the ground as copper doesn't rust or corrode (steel does). Copper is three times heavier (dense) than aluminium. Artist statement: 'Dressed in Memories IV is my continued exploration into contemporary quilting by looking back to the history of women, the quilts they made and the memories their work holds. Layered on the wagga of recycled materials is embroidered a dress that my mother made when she was in her teens.
