In Aug-2006 a group of 48 overseas Vietnamese came back to visit and pray at the VBP mass grave in Cherang Ruku and at many other cemeteries along the eastern coast of Malaysia. The trip was organized by the Archive of Vietnamese Boat People. It was the first group of the overseas Vietnamese coming to visit since the end of the wave of VBP in Malaysia in 1996. This whisky label comes from the bottler of the whisky, Tattersall’s Hotel, Warrnambool. This hotel, at the corner of Liebig Street and Raglan Parade, opened in 1866 and closed in 1996 and was a prominent hotel in Warrnambool during that time. Patrick King was the licensee from 1907 to 1909.This label is of some significance as one of the few labels we have connected to a Warrnambool hotel and one of the few mementoes of a prominent Warrnambool hotel, Tattersall’s. This is a small sheet of paper with gilt edging, lettering in white and black and some decoration which includes leaves and stalks of barley. One corner has been torn away. Donated by A R Kyle (1916) in 1994; does not appear to have been attached to blazer. Roy Kyle entered Ballarat College in 1912. He marched with Pompey Elliott's 15th in WW1. (see in the footsteps of Pompey p. 173-4. Roy was awarded the College Cup a prestigious sporting trophy in 1912. (see VC000054) The College Cup was awarded to the competitor who won all three 120, 250 and 440 yard races. For more information about the College Cup see Ring-A-Roo December 1993. In 1996 Roy was the oldest 'Old Collegian and youngest surviving Gallipoli veteran. Roy passed away 9th October 1996. This tiny urn was found in an antique shop in Queenscliff in 1996 and purchased and returned to the school by old collegian R Alister Cannon (1953). Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations. These included the Horticultural Society, the Wodonga Arts Council, the Wodonga Camera Club and the Wodonga Lapidary Club.
