Hospitalised 8 Nov 1916 for trench foot and rejoined unit 11 Feb 1917. WIA 27 Feb 1917 GSW left forearm and rejoined 30 July 1917. WIA 4 Oct 1917 GSW left finger and rejoined 1 Jan 1918. Photograph, William George Pyke
Linton man William George Pyke served overseas with the AIF during World War I, and was repatriated to Australia, but died suddenly shortly after his return. As reported in the Ballarat Star, 29 July 1919: "Quite a gloom was cast over the township when it became known that Cpl. Wm. G. Pyke, a recently returned soldier, had dropped dead while at work on Saturday morning. The deceased soldier was working on the Recreation Reserve with a party of other returned men, effecting improvements under the Repatriation grant, supervised by the local council." These sterling silver cuff links were worn as part of the uniform from ? to ?. Pair of oval-shaped, sterling silver cuff links bearing the Ballarat College crest. The crest has red and black enamel and the Minerva head and motto are in silver relief. A three link silver chain and toggle is attached to the centre of the back. Worn by Army soldiers as part of field and dress uniform during WW2 Donated by Ruby Annett from the Caramut RSL. Probably at the time of wind up of the Caramut RSL Sub Branch. Webbing BELT, with brass ends that fold inwards to clip to the inside of the belt. The fastening is a brass hook fastening and there are two brass keepers that are positioned on the belt just inside the buckle and have both the inner and outer folds that pass through the keepers. -
