The Rev. Peter D. Blackwood was ordained in 1977 and his first placement was at Burwood Heights. He has had several placements, including as Presbytery Minister and Associate General Secretary of the Synod. He is now retired. This picture was taken after a church protest in Warrnambool. "Members of the Warrnabool UC walked home from church on Sunday 28 September, in a protest against Sunday racing. The 150-strong congregation left cars parked outside the church, which coincidentally blocked all car spots outside the local TAB. The vehicles were left parked throughout the afternoon, creating an inconvenience for punters wanting to place a quick bet. UC minister, the Rev. The photograph was taken after Coles Supermarket and Sunbury Shopping Square were constructed on the railway land on the east side of the line in 1989, but before the Safeway-Woolworths complex was built in 2000 on the west side of the railway line. St. Andrew's Uniting Church, formerly the Presbyterian church includes two different church buildings as well as a new addition built at the rear of the 1904 red brick building. A small weather board structure was used as a church until the Romanesque brick building opened in 1904. St Mary's Anglican Church was originally built on land in Oaklands Road. It was licensed in 1859 by Bishop Perry, the first Anglican bishop of Melbourne. In the early 1970s the eastern approach to Sunbury was changed. The stone bridge spanning the Jacksons Creek was replaced by a wider concrete structure and dangerous curves were taken out of the road. A number of houses were built within the Sunbury Asylum grounds to house administrators and staff, and their families, who worked at the asylum.
