Boyd designed the exhibition for the opening of the Australian Chancery in Washington DC held in June 1969. He designed six cylindrical clear acrylic display cases. One of these exhibits used an anamorphic optical illusion, using compressed images which had normal proportions when viewed through a lens of the half-cylindrical display cases. The bookends (item F157) were designed as a small scale model for the Chancery exhibition. Placing the disc (item F158) underneath the adjacent two half-cylindrical bookends (item F157) demonstrates how the bookends behave as a lens.Photocopy of a image on a transparencyaustralian chancery, robin boyd -

Photograph - Photographs, Students from RMIT School of Art display their works with paper
In 1969 RMIT lecturer Gerard Herbst arranged an exhibition the work of his Industrial Design students at the NGV’s Design Centre. In ‘Design with Paper' the students explored the characteristics of a sheet of paper, an exercise based on similar ones set by Josef Albers at the Bauhaus, Germany and Black Mountain College, USA. The exhibition attracted press attention, Bulletin critic Brian Hoad noting You are told that in the tradition of Gropius and his Bauhaus experiments of the ‘twenties they are attempting to bridge the gulf between the fine arts and the technical crafts to produce one day from among their numbers a new type of creative thinker. Posters, Post Christmas Mail Now For Overseas
In the days before television advertising and the WWW, commercial artists such as John Whittenbury designed posters, railway billboards and trade exhibitions advertising products and services to the masses. Whittenbury’s series of quirky Christmas mail posters for the Post Masters General Office, now known as Australia Post, were displayed in post offices across Australia. He had a wealth of experience in the field, having worked as an illustrator, graphic designer, cartoonist, and mechanical draftsman for the RAAF in Laverton and then Victoria Barracks, and also taking out a qualification in Advertising Art from RMIT in 1961, prior to joining the PMG. Painting - Artwork - Painting, Duncan Lannan, 'Self Portrait at Home' by Duncan Lannan, c2006
‘Self portrait at home’ This artwork was conceived after a series of paintings depicting the interior of my home in Ballarat. Those paintings began as glimpses around the house, mostly captured at night, of hallways, darkened corners, and ominous entrances into bedrooms. Later on I began to fill these spaces with a figure, that of my girlfriend (now wife), and conducted portraits of her placed amongst the shadows in a deliberate attempt to conjure up associations of Baroque painting as well as still images from horror films. I wanted to see what was sinister in this house, to imagine it, as well as observing it directly. ‘Self portrait at home’ is an attempt at summarising the combination of imagination and observation, of wandering through interior spaces as well as being absorbed in it: that what we see is then also taken into our consciousness, or in the case of this painting what we see is about to be swallowed. This concept of combining what is observed with what is imagined and using references to the physical body as a kind of mediator of this process is expressed in Kenneth Slessor’s poem ‘South Country’, a poem that partly inspired my approach to this painting. The following verses provide an example: And over the flat earth of empty farms The monstrous continent of air floats back Coloured with rotting sunlight and the black, Bruised flesh of thunderstorms: Air arched, enormous, pounding the bony ridge, Ditches and hutches, with a drench of light, So huge, from such infinities of height, You walk on the sky’s beach ‘Self portrait at home’ may not express itself as seriously as Slessor’s poem does but I hope it shows the impact as well as the texture and flavour that houses of the Ballarat landscape, and those of the imagination, can have. Duncan LannanDuncan LANNAN (1972- ) Duncan Lannan undertook a Diploma of Arts (Visual Arts) at RMIT between 1995 and 1996. A further two years study at the University of Ballarat (now Federation University Australia) saw Duncan Lannan awarded a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) in 2000. He completed a Graduate Diploma of Education at the University of Melbourne in 2001. Duncan Lannan's exhibition 'Young, Dumb and Full of Ambition!' was held at the Art Gallery of Ballarat from 13 July to 11 September 2014.ContemporarySelf portrait of the artist with mouth open, and a house on the tongue. This piece was exhibited at the Art Gallery of Ballarat in 2007 in the "Eye to I" exhibition which was curated by former Federation University Art theory lecturer Geoff Wallis. Vision Australia
Document (Item) - Text, Anna Fairclough, Living in a Sensory World audio guide: Melbourne Museum, Yarra Ranges Regional Museum, Sovereign Hill Gold Museum
The "Living in a Sensory World" showcases how far Australia’s blindness community has come a long way since the mid-19th century, when people who were blind or had low vision had few opportunities to fully engage with society. Historic items and compelling first-hand accounts in the form of oral histories, diaries and memoirs from the collections of Vision Australia, museums and individuals provide context for a celebration of the achievements of people with low or no vision, at the same time giving visitors a window into the sensory world experienced by people with blindness or low vision. The exhibition also explores current technologies and their positive effects on people’s lives while speculating on the future and the potential for continuing improvement in the lives of people with blindness or low vision. This audio guide was produced to help visitors with low or no sight access the exhibition and the items on display at the: - Melbourne Museum from August to October 2012. - Sovereign Hill Gold Museum November 2012 to February 2013. - Yarra Ranges Regional Museum February 2013 to April 2013.vision australia, melbourne museum, sovereign hill gold museum, yarra ranges regional museum -

Oil, Jacqueline Slaymaker, Untitled Nude by Jacqueline Slaymaker, 1993
Jacqueline SLAYMAKER This work was undertaken in 1992 when Jacqueline Slaymaker was a 3rd Year student at Ballarat University College. The catalogue for the End of Year exhibition in 1992 states "The figures importance is purposeful. The strong sculptural form of the torso, tensions of the skin and volume are the aspects I focus on. Drawing is vital to my painting. The heavily layered works that I sand, scratch and rub back into eventually resolve some of the problems associated with painting. I believe this constant re-addressing creates a sense of history and building a texture creates a sense of history and build up of texture illustrates the concrete solid way I see the figure. I draw resource from ancient sculpture in particular Etruscan coffins and tomb wall painting. More recently I am interested in the draftsmanship of Jim Dine and monoprints of May Frank.' Painting - Natural pigment on bark, Mawurndjul, John, 'Female Wayarra Spirit' by John Mawurndjul, 1995
Balang [John MAWURNDJUL] (1952 - ) Born Mumeka, Northern Territory Country: Milmilngkan, West Arnham Land, Northern Territory Clan: Na-Kurulk Language Group: Kunwinjku Location: Milmilngkan John Mawurndjul is an Australian indigenous artist. He is a member of the Kuninjku people of West Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. Growing up John had only occasional contact with non-indigenous people and culture. He was tutored in rarrk, a traditional painting technique using fine cross hatching and infill, working on small barks. During the 1980s he started producing larger and more complex works. The artist has painted 'Wayarra', a generic term which can include both malevolent spirit beings which continually inhabit certain sites or objects but can also mean the Spirit of a recently deceased person. These spirits are one of two spirits of the dead, the other being the 'Kun-malng' soul. The 'Wayarra' is the shadow or 'shade' of the dead and may take on the form of the deceased and haunt areas where the deceased recently inhabited. In order to prevent Wayarra spirits from harassing relative of the recently deceased, a smoking ceremont is performed where Ironwood leaves are burnt around the camp of the recently deceased and ochre is rubbed on all objects belonging to the deceased. Ochre may also be rubbed on vehicles, houses and trees. Some Wayarra are a particular Dreaming totem for people of certain clans. This is why many artists depict Wayarra in their bark paintings and sculptures. They are depicting clan totems particular to their lineage and which are celebrated in major regional patrimoiety ceremonies. In 1989 the work of John Mawurndjul was included in the landmark exhibition "Magiciens de la Terra' at the Centre Pompidou and Grande Halle de la Vilette in Paris, France. His works have also been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Australia, New York, Paris and Japan. Mawurndjul is one of eight artists whose work in part of the largest inernational commission of contemporary Indigenous art from Australia at the Musee du Quai Branly, Paris. The work was exhibited in the Australian survey "John Mawurndjul: I Am The Old And The New", at the Museum of Contemporary Art, one of the 160-odd works all chosen by Mawurndjul for inclusion in the exhibition. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection.
