Photos - x3 Mt Beauty Drama Club and x2 Mt Beauty Ladies Gymnasium group
The Mt Beauty Drama Group held concerts/ pantomimes at the Mt Beauty Community Centre. It was a valuable social outlet for the members because at that time the only entertainment in Mount Beauty was the pictures on a Saturday night. It was also an alternative to playing sport for some. It was formed in 1958 and expanded to include 20 ladies and 8 men. It ceased in the 1970s. Ref. "Below Bogong - A History of Mount Beauty" Chapter 8, Pages 252-254.The Drama Club performed and entertained the Mt Beauty community during their leisure time during the 1950s and 1960s. It was an alternative to sport and was before tv was available. This activity is of historic and social significance and can be compared with activities of today especially as Mount Beauty was built as a construction town for the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme and is now a small town with the added influence of tourism. x6 Black and White Photos of groups of adults performing c 1950sOn the back in pencil of one photo - "AMcC Collection / Pantomime in MB Community Centre"mt beauty drama group -

Functional object, Presentation Wallet : G Thake, Founder E.K.W.C, 1946
On Saturday 17 May 1947, an article on page 25 of the Australian Women’s Weekly reported on the formation of a new women's club: the East Kew Women’s Community Club. The article reads: "Wives and mothers in a Melbourne suburb, East Kew, have formed the East Kew Women's Community Club. While babies and young children are under the supervision of a play leader, wives and mothers follow up their own interests. The club caters for varying tastes, has musical appreciation, drama, and "Keep Fit" classes. President Mrs. Grace Thake says that the club hopes soon to have tennis, debating, and discussion groups. The club originated from a debate, "Should women take an active part in social and civic affairs?" Two days later their interest in these matters was proved by the forming of the club, which took for its motto: "To help others, improve ourselves, and foster the community spirit." Membership is open to all women, regardless of age, politics, and religion, and aims to co-operate with all societies working for the improvement of health and cultural standards." The East Kew Women's Community Club, also called the East Kew Women's Community Club functioned from 1946 to the end of the 1960s (to be verified). The records of the Club were placed with Kew Historical Society to preserve them for posterity. The records and objects belonging to the East Kew Women's Community Club have significance socially for their capacity to illuminate women's associations in the post war period in Australia.Brown leather wallet, dated 1946, embossed with the owner's name and information about the club of which she was the founding president."G Thake | Founder EKWC | 1946 To help others | Improve ourselves | Foster the community spirit"community clubs - kew (vic), women's clubs - kew (vic), east kew women's club, grace thake, presentation wallets -

Artwork, other - Public Artwork, Belinda Woodruff, Spirit of the Ballarat Winter Festival by Belinda Woodruff, 1998
"The idea behind this artwork installation ‘Spirit of the Ballarat Winter Festival’ was to incorporate arts and cultural symbology as if it were painted like a brush stroke upon the footpath yet embedded like a time stamp within the urban streetscape. ‘Spirit of the Ballarat Winter Festival’ offers an unexpected burst of colour and vibrancy within the Ballarat CBD." This artwork was created as pert of the Ballarat Winter Festival in 1998. The Spirit of the Ballarat Winter Festival mosaic is an interpretation of the Ballarat Winter Festival logo image designed by Paul McKenna. Principal Artist Belinda (Bel) Woodruff then trading as Deevine Mosaics received Project Support from Anne Bonighton and City of Ballarat Community Arts Department staff. Vitrified glass tiles adhered to a pre-cast concrete form - installed into the footpath.SPIRIT OF THE / BALLARAT WINTER FESTIVAL / MOSAIC BY/ DEVINE ORIGINALS / SUPPORTED BY / COMMUNITY ARTS - 1998 -
