John E. Blacker was a Methodist and then Uniting Church miinister - placements at Dandenong (Lilydale), Kilmore & Broadford, Kerang-Barham, Sunshine, and Moonee Ponds. In the early 1980s he led a charismatic renewal program at Sunshine and Moonee Ponds, and was involved with a controversy over re-baptisms. "The Rev. Brian Ernest Giddings, 51, was chosen to become the tenth moderator of the Synod of Tasmania for a term commencing with the meeting of Synod in October 1987. Mr. Giddings is a minister in the Mersey parish, based in Devonport, and secretary of the Mersey-Lyell presbytery. Brian Giddings was born in Mildura, Victoria. He worked as an optometrist's technician until he candidated for the Methodist ministry in 1969. After graduation and ordination he served in the St. Arnaud and Lara-Meredith parishes." The Ball Court Hotel was built in the late 1870's by John Cahill. It remained with the Cahill family until World War 2. The Lupson family were the hoteliers for 20 years after WW2 and in 1973 the McPhersons rebuilt the interior and added air conditioning to the building. The Ball Court Hotel is the only surviving hotel from Sunbury's early settlement.A coloured photograph of the side view along Macedon Street of the Ball Court Hotel showing the public bar in the original building, the Take-away area and the bistro. The three brick shops were part of the later commercial development which emerged along O'Shanassy Street. These shops were built on the northern side of Brook Street. On 4th August 1978 the construction of the Goonawarra Housing Estate commenced. The estate was formerly known as the Goonawarra Farm and overloked the Sunbury town area and Jacksons Creek valley. Plans for the new development included a gold course, housing, community and recreational facilities. The photograph wqas taken at a Belle of the Ball which took place in Sunbury on 2 October 1953. The people in the photograph are from L-R: Ken Nevant, Flora Lloyd, who was the daughter of the local chemist, Norman Hoiles, Pat Barrow, Jean Hall and Lachlan Mason, who was Ken Nevant's half brother. The Belle of the Ball was a popular annual event, usually organized by the football club in Sunbury. The event took place in the Memorial Hall.A black and white photograph of three couples at a ball. This Smithy is a replica of the building in which the first H. V. McKay harvester was built at Drummartin in northern Victoria in 1884. The original Smithy was moved from Drummartin to Sunshine Victoria where it remained for many years outside the H. V. McKay manufacturing plant. With the construction of the standard gauge railway line the road outside the Smithy was demolished, and the original Smithy was taken to the Melbourne Museum.The original Smithy is now in a fragile state and is no longer on public display at the Melbourne Museum. The site where the original Smithy stood in Sunshine was no longer available so the replica Smithy was erected a few hundred metres away, in the South East corner of Barclay Reserve on King Edward Ave, Albion 3020.The replica Smithy permits the public to view a full sized model of the building which eventually led to the formation of the H. V. McKay Sunshine Harvester Works. This firm grew to being considered the main manufacturing plant in the southern hemisphere, and also led to the local area being renamed in 1907 from Braybrook Junction to Sunshine.Brown wooden building with bark roof.
