The period of the painting is between the years 2008 and 2016 after the remodeling of the Forecourt and the major renovations to the building 2016 - 18. This is the first of 3 water colours by Stan Thomas. The building was the HQ of the Bendigo RSL now known as the Bendigo Military Museum. CAst iron lace was made in foundries in most cities. There were 42 such factories in Melbourne alone. It was cheaper to make than wrought iron. "Pig iron", iron ore, was melted in a blast furnace, mixed with alloys a nd then poured into moulds usually made of sand. Joseph Lambert Howard was born in Albury, NSW in 1886 and died in Bendigo, Vic. in 1958. From the years 1915 - 1917 he advertised in the Bendigo Advertiser as an Electrical contractor and supplier of Electrical accessories, operating from the Lyric Building in Charing Cross, Bendigo. He also produced an advertising calendar for 1917.Small metal name plate possible tin - has holes Centre of each side. A number of these were produced for various town. Charlton's was inserted into the local paper for distribution. The lithograph depicted local businesses within Charlton at the time about c.1892. The lithograph is stamped "with WM CURNOW Compliments". William Curnow owned the local store in Charlton at the time. These three photographs were most likely taken from the 1950s to the 1970s. The RASvy surveyor in each photograph was taking angular measurements with the observer recording their readings on a booking form. They were probably employed in establishing mapping and geodetic control operations or the surveyors may have been in training. Photo .1P was possibly taken at Mount Alexander in Central Victoria, a location close to Bendigo, as the stone cairn in the background of the photo appears to be identical to the cairn presently located on top of the mountain. Personnel and location have been confirmed on another photo in the collection with annotation. These three photographs are of surveyors in the field undertaking observations using theodolites. The photographs were printed on photographic paper and are part of the Army Survey Regiment’s Collection. The photographs were scanned at 300 dpi. .1) - Photo, black & white, c1950s. Bendigo Volunteer Rifles were formed in 1857/58 and the Bendigo Cavalry in 1861. Each man supplied his own outfit with the cavalry carrying sabres rather than guns.
