This image was one of a series taken by Harold Millane in the late 1940's. They were printed onto post cards. Mary Millane, Harold's wife, printed captions on each negative with Indian ink. The series includes a variety of views of Mitcham, Vermont, Nunawading, Park Orchards and Doncaster East. Soldier has been identified as PTE Alan George William Hooke (11513). Alan was a Baker by trade. His father was William Hugh Hooke and his mother was Margaret Holloway Hooke. Alan was born in Rutherglen in 1893 and died in Melbourne in 1978. He is the older brother of Norman Hooke who was KIA in France 1916.
