Part of a photographic record of Buninyong township. The buildings range from 1960s back to 1896, 1887, 1866, to a remnant of 1855, hidden within the shop of D. Brown electrician, consequently reflecting much alteration and change when compared to earlier photos.The streetscape is of historic significance, recording the detail of the streetscape in 1993. Many of the buildings have since undergone significant renovation/change.Streetscape of Learmonth St., Buninyong, looking over roundabout to Town Hall and businesses. Elm trees in the grounds of the Uniting (formerly Presbyterian) Church are seen in the background. Buildings are the fire station, council offices, Town Hall, Whykes Butchers, M. & D. Brown electrician, Buninyong Cake Shop and former bank, now a residence. Oak trees are in front of the council offices and shire hall. One tree planted in 1959 to mark the occasion of the connection of a water supply to Buninyong. A variety of elm is at the end of the row outside the Bank, now a residence. Cdo Assoc Victoria presented it to Exmouth Heavy AA Assoc. This was because the Krait left Exmouth on the successful Opn Jaywick raid on Japanese occupied Singapore Harbour in 1943. Exmouth Heavy AAA has now disbanded and daughter of a foundation member donated it back to the (post-WW2) Vic Cdo Assoc in July 2012.The former Japanese fishing boat, as MV Krait left Exmouth on the successful Opn Jaywick raid on Japanese occupied Singapore harbour in 1943. The vessel was partly restored, and motored into Sydney harbour in 1964 with former Z Special members on board, including the Jaywick operatives Berryman, Carse, Jones and Young. Maree and Marcus of 63 Station Street married after several years of living together. As she is a fashion designer, she designed and made all costumes; as he is a musician, some of his friends played jazz and rock for the procession to the Port Melbourne Yacht Club for the ceremony. Only three neighbours (including photographer) were invited to accompany the procession. The Kew Historical Society's postcard collection includes views of Kew, Melbourne and Greater Melbourne as well as those including overseas scenes sent or received from Europe or the Middle East. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Colour photograph of Sergeant R. 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles Regimental Collection

Lieutenant colonel Colin John Chisholm of Khancoban Station, Corryong, Victoria commanded 8th LH August 1940 - July 1942. The 8th Light Horse Regiment AIF was raised at Broadmeadows Victoria in September 1914 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Alexander White and formed part of the 3rd Light Horse Brigade. The regiment served at Gallipoli where in a courageous but ill-fated charge at the Nek on 7 August 1915 it suffered horrendous casualties including Lieutenant Colonel White. Rebuilt in Egypt under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Leslie Maygar VC the regiment went on the serve throughout the Middle East Campaign. Colonel Maygar died of wounds at Beersheba when the regiment was attacked by enemy aircraft while waiting to follow up the successful charge of the 4th LH Brigade on 30 October 1917. The 8th Light Horse AIF was disbanded in 1919, but soon after re-raised as the 8th (Indi) Light Horse in the Citizen Military Forces, superseding 16th (Indi) Light Horse. It had its headquarters at Benalla with sub-units throughout the Upper Murray and Northeast Victoria. In December 1941, the regiment converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 8th Reconnaissance Battalion then in July 1942 it became 8th Cavalry Regiment and served in Northern Territory. As Japanese threat to the mainland declined the regiment was disbanded.Colour photograph of two men holding flag. Former Farrier Sergeant Merv Harris at left.
