Snowy River Dry Cleaners was situated in Stanley Street, Orbost (previously a hat factory). There was also a shop in the CBD of Orbost. Basil Dowie moved his dry cleaning business from Nicholson Street to 31 Stanley Street where Stuart Hats had been. He had originally bought the business from Laurie Harrington in August 1950. Robin Boyd was on the judging panel for the American Institute of Architects, in conjunction with Sunset magazine, "Best houses" in the West Coast USA in 1965. Interesting commententary is given about the 364 houses entered and the award-winning houses. Some conclusions about what is new in planning are drawn. Comparisons are made with the best Australian houses and landscape architecture of 1965. The donor worked at the Valley Mill for many years. These items were given to clients of the Mid City Motel (probably the one in Ballarat ). The Mid City Motel company was formed in 1963 by a syndicate with the motel in Raglan Parade, Warrnambool. It was later sold with the company liquidated in 1982. The expansion from Warrnambool to Ballarat occurred in 1970 with a building in Doveton Street North, Ballarat. Items such as the sewing kit and shower cap are still given out as promotional material in many motels today. These items are of little importance but are examples of the promotional activities of the motel/tourism scene 30 or so years ago. They may be useful for display.This is a small plastic bag containing a paper sewing kit and a paper folder containing two Alka-Seltser tablets. The sewing kit is red and white and the Alka Seltzer packet is mostly blue. The three items come from the Mid-City Motel and are intended to be kept in a car. The photographic envelopers were used to develop plates, films and lantern slides. They had to be mixed as per instructions on the packet. These may have been used by an individual or by a local school or organisation.Wilma Davies, a long term resident of the Kiewa Valley donated this photographic equipment.Brownish/black cardboard box with no lid (broken off). Label is black, white and orange on front. The remaining parts of the label seal are on the sides with a 'picture' of (weighing) scales and words Trade Mark in black on orange and white. Inside the box are 31 clear plastic sealed cardboard boxes of "Colourform developer "B" Powder". The boxes are white with a label on the front with black and orange print.
