One of a pair of posed photographs of Car 7 in Corio Tce. prior to opening day. The tramline curves to the right into the depot whose entrance lies between Blakiston & Co on the right and the MESCo's offices on the corner of Yarra St., to the left. Note its ornamental turret, removed in the 20s. The carefully arranged poseurs are employees of the Company, recognisable from the other photographs. The second photograph (Item No. 8617 - large print on wall in board room) shows the opposite end of the tram with the Geelong Club and Mac's Hotel in the background. The same characters are aboard, differently arranged. Early 1912. Note also the front destination box (mechanism unknown) that was replaced with roller destination blinds with a set of four coloured lights above.Black and white print on paperNoi. 1 inside a circle and 13-9 written on the reverse in ink. Demonstrates and yields information about the ESCo tickets of 1906, shows the variety of tickets and passes used.Framed - wooden surround, glass, set of 26 actual tickets and two sketches of passes, timber backing board with the title "Ballarat Tramways - Sample tickets", dated 1906. Sets out the various tickets used by ESCo at the time and most likely used as a training aid for new conductors on both the electric and horse trams. Not to be displayed in light or hung up, that is display with care as fading is likely. Shows B class tram number 90, east bound in Whitehorse Road, at the intersection with Burke Road. Photo has a caption "Whitehorse Road Balwyn c1920s". Tram has the PMTT style destination board. There are a number of people standing on the right hand side of the tram. Note the shelter on the left hand side. This shelter remains in same position (2022). Photograph - Black and White - demolishing cable tram track Smith St and Queens Parade 1954/55
The photograph shows the demolition or removal of the cable tram track at the intersection of Smith St Gertrude St. Fitzroy. The workmen are excavating the former cable tram track The inbound cable tram track remains in position. The 1955 Annual Report notes that work commenced following the completion of the Queen's visit in March 1954 and that all work was done by day-labour. The track was opened to service in late June 1955. The second image is from a Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works plan (part) No. 1217 - Collingwood for the intersection, obtained for reference from the State Library of Victoria Collection of MMBW Plans. It shows the layout of the cables and the large sheave pit that the cable itself passed around. The trams were required to drop the cable from the grip prior to the entry to the curve and then coast around. Driver of Tesla car involved in a hit-run incident with a passenger boarding a tram in Wattletree Road, Armadale. Passenger was trying to board tram when struck by a car that the driver, who fled the scene, later claimed was on autopilot. It was the first case involving a Tesla for Victoria's major collision investigators.
