This book tells the story of the Pepper family, an Aboriginal family who experienced child removal and displacement. Percy Pepper also served in the First World War and was one of few Aboriginal service men who recived a soldier settler block. The Sturt Street Gardens had its origins in the 1851 survey of Ballarat West by W.S. Urquhart. A generous reserve was allocated for the main streets of Ballarat, of which Sturt Street was the first.
