Rectangular grey metal railways lunch box with a cream coloured painted metal lid secured with metal clips at both ends and a metal handle on the lid. The surface is very worn but there are traces of blue paint on the grey metal surface, which suggest it may have been blue. Colour slide of a legatees in overalls in the bush to collect firewood having a break near a table of food. It was during Operation Firewood. Legatees would organise collection of wood from the country and distribute it to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Other slides show the cutting and loading of wood and delivery to widows in metropolitan Melbourne. Was with many other slides taken in the 1950s and 1960s. The slides have been photographed to make digital images and moved to archive quality sleeves. In many cases the original images were not well focussed and the digital image the best available.A record of Legacy helping widows by sourcing, supplying and delivering firewood. Gertrude Perry was born in California Gully in 1917. Her singing skills were recognized at an early age. She later sang with local choirs and sang on radio. She was involved with the Bendigo Operatic Society for many years. Gertrude began her working life in sales. After studying book keeping she worked at the Bendigo Ordnance Factory during WW2 and then worked for local solicitors and accountants. Blackburn Open Air School No 3850 Gardenia St. In 1915 the Education Department built a school in Gardenia Street Blackburn for anaemic and ill nourished children from Richmond, Sth Yarra, Glen Ferries and Burnley.Twenty-five children travelled by train to Blackburn Railway station. After lunch supplied by school authorities, the children were supposed to rest for 1 hour in the open air. Despite healthy diet anaemia didn't improve but the children were healthy and brighter. After WWII extra facilities were added and the Oslo lunch introduced. A Club luncheon was a popular method for the 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles Museum to present the Army's public face to the community in accordance with the stated objective of Army museums. A programme for the 57th Christmas Concert held for Legacy widows at the Melbourne Town Hall on 5 December 2022. The events of the afternoon included lunch for the bandsmen at the Memorial Hall, a street march to the Park, and performances at the Park, concluding with a massed march back to town. 10 bands from the surrounding districts participated. Children from Bulla and MIckleham Primary schools attend a camp at Beechworth in 1988. While there they experienced a number of varied activities as part of their outdoor education course. Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations. These included the Horticultural Society, the Wodonga Arts Council, the Wodonga Camera Club and the Wodonga Lapidary Club. Typically it would contain lunch and a homework book generally a small exercise book which would contain the set work for the evening. A church service for Legacy widows at Scot's Church in Collins St, Melbourne. This is an annual event for Legacy widows at the start of Legacy Week, which is the first week in September. The church used for the service varies. There is also a pilgrimage to the Shrine for a service and a lunch afterwards. The Scots' Church was the first Presbyterian Church to be built in Victoria.
