Arthur was a well-known Surrey Hills identity until early 1990s. He was a welder and ran his business from his home at 55 Sunbury Crescent. His father had been a hansom cab owner/driver changing to taxis when cars took over. Arthur known to most locals as "Tiger" was a mine of information on local history and supplied many photographs of Surrey Hills. REF: Oral testimony - Rudi Mineur, 22/7/2019: Arthur was born at 55 Sunbury Crescent and was an only child; he lived all his life there, and did not marry. This photo was taken at the home in Sunbury Crescent of Rudi and Betsie Mineur. Rudi worked as a taxidermist and often had large fish to mount as trophies. This photo was taken at Arthur's request as a ruse. He did not catch the fish. Arthur was the only son of Frederick Adolphus Lyons (1891-1980) who was born in Surrey Hills, son of Thomas and Catherine Lyons. He married Elizabeth Ruby Hall in 1918. They lived at 55 Sunbury Crescent. The Lyons’ home was called ‘Knopshambury’ - this was probably a misspelling of Knockshanbally in Co Kilkenny, the birth place of Fred’s father, Thomas Edmund Josias Lyons (1846-1915). Arthur Lyons was born in Surrey Hills on 12 Jun 1920. He became a motor mechanic / welder and lived at 55 Sunbury Crescent. This is one of a series of photos donated by Arthur Lyons. The donation was made while he was in hospital. He died shortly afterwards (23 Sep 1990). Donation was finalised by a neighbour, Mrs Florence Ann Armitstead, wife of Glen Victor Armitstead. Glen was a local hairdresser. They moved to 11 Sunbury Crescent after their marriage in 1939. Arthur had no relatives to distribute the material to. Issued to Royal Army Medical Corps soldiers, this cap badge would have been worn by Francis Browne during World War I. Francis James Browne died in Sydney 1963. He had a long career in obstetrics and gynaecology. Summary of appointments include: General Practice in Wales, Maternity Department of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, 1st director of obstetric unit, University College Hospital London. Retired and continued postgraduate teaching in London and NSW. Married to Grace Cuthbert, who was director of Maternal and Baby Welfare in NSW. Collection of objects transferred from the Archives to the Museum collection found amongst Professor FJ Browne's papers.Dark brown metal cap badge. Ned Williams was born in Bristol, England in 1825 and died at Ballarat 7 September 1900. Ned took a leading role in transforming what was a swamp (Yuille's Swamp) into the modern day Lake Wendouree. Ned was the establishment and promotion of water sports on the lake, he was well liked in the community and highly regarded as a leading citizen, an athlete, a sportsman and as an oarsman. This memorial was commissioned on his passing in 1900.The item is of aesthetic and historic significance to the people of BallaratA Carrara marble fountain on a basalt base. Eight tiers of marble, the central element is bordered by four pillars with decorative capitals on top. The pillars and capitals are secured with copper allot rod at the upper junction and ferrous rods at the base. Shaped like a gun the handle of the hollow holder being at a rectangle. The connections are attached to a cone shape. The part that fits inside this holder is straight with a handle at one end, with a shield to stop it travelling into its holder too far.Then it continues as a rod, half way along which is another shield until the rod stops at a solid half cylinder.
