Mixed media - Doll House Verandah, Yvonne Fitzmaurice, Doll House Veranda, 1974
Hand-made child's doll's house. Built by Mrs Yvonne Fitzmaurice and finished in 1979. This house was built as a 1:12 scale and is a model of a Californian house called Peppercorn farm. House was built by Yvonne and her family and took a period of three years. A lot of the furniture is handmade and the rest is collected from various shops. Catalogued books, manuals, repair kits etc used when building the house.The white painted verandah has a brass plate beside the door with the name Susan Fitzmaurice. In front of the door is a door mat and the veranda has a white hanging seat and a timber flower box with flowers."Susan Fitzmaurice" name on front of building. Date on plaque on top of front wall. Contents: - flower box with flowers, wooden swing, door mat. -

Black and white photocopy of a photo of the Rose of Australia 1907 printed on cream paper. Photo shows the building after it was burnt down in 1907. Two chimneys and some of the building are still standing, the rest is a pile of twisted timber. A number of men and a couple of children are standing in the rubble, two are on the roof and two on a ladder. Printed on white paper under the picture are - Rose of Australia 1907 when it was burnt down. Photocopy of a photo of the Rose of Australia Re Built. It is a brick building with a veranda with iron lace between the veranda poles. There are three decorative edges above the veranda, the first has Rose of, the middle has Australia and the third has Hotel painted on it. On part of the wall underneath is the name A. Thomas. Written under the photo is - Rose of Australia Hotel. Photo taken about 1906. Hotel rebuilt after original wooden structure was destroyed by fire. The original building situated to the right and rear of this complex was moved from Upper Halls Gap C1896. It was bought by James Balmain as a private residence having previously been a school. Additions were made to 'Bellfield' over the next 10-12 years and it became a guest house in 1910 when purchased by Mrs Matilda Thompson. It is likely that she is one of the ladies in the photograph. Trained as a cartographic draftsman within the mining industry, Margaret Picken is an artist who worked producing property illustrations for real estate agencies in eastern suburbs of Victoria from 1983-2005.
