Book - Illustrated Book, Geoff Hocking 1947- et al, Remembrance: 100 years, 100 memorials, 100 Australian stories, 2014
This is a rich mosaic of a book about the persistence of memory. In a distinctly original and captivating way, it brings together photographs, both old and new, ephemera and one hundred stories as it commemorates one hundred years since the outbreak of World War One. it shows how the terrible sacrifice of young Australians has reverberated across this country and through time, and how the memories still resonate in so many different ways, and in so many different stories. Selected for their unique design, their grandeur or their simplicity, the one hundred memorials have been arranged alphabetically and represent the diversity of memorials to the ANZAC spirit from each state and territory across the nation.Illustrated book with dustjacket. Book cover and dustjacket are identical in appearance. The front cover has a coloured photograph of the Honour Roll and domed ceiling in the Memorial Alcove adjacent to the Geelong Art Gallery. Under this is a black background, with the title printed in white and yellow, a red poppy, and the authors surnames printed in white. Title and authors names are printed in similar colours on a black background on the spine along with a red poppy and the publisher's mark. The back cover has a black background with four small coloured photographs: the Cenotaph, St Martin's Place Sydney; Australian War Memorial, Canberra; interior the Brisbane shrine of Remembrance; the War Memorial Adelaide. under this a summary of the book is printed in white.non-fictionThis is a rich mosaic of a book about the persistence of memory. Book - Illustrated Book, Jan Bassett 1953-1999, Guns and Brooches, Australian Army Nursing from the Boer War to the Gulf War, 1992
This book investigates the contradictions, paradoxes and anomalies which have arisen for those assigned the role of army nurse. Financial discrimination saw the female captain in charge of an operating theatre in Vietnam being paid less than a male corporal working with her. Guns have replaced brooches as part of the nurses' uniform, as "total war" increasingly makes a mockery of the distinction between combatants and non-combatants.Illustrated book with dust jacket. Metal Uniform Embellishments of the Australian Army Post 1953 Volume 2 - Insignia for Units and Regiments
This 305 page, full colour hard copy reference work, catalogues the series of metal uniform embellishments used by Units and Regiments of the Australian Army, from 1953 through to the date of publication. The book provides images of the front and the back of a given (metal) insignia set for each Unit or Regiment operating within the Australian Army since 1953 (including abolished formations). Each image set, depicts the relevant hat badge, collar badges and epaulette title and/or cloth shoulder title applicable. The book’s images document at least three distinctly different ‘generations’ of insignia manufacturing methods/types, including the: gilt brass and white metal items used in the 1953 to 1964 period; and anodised aluminium ‘StayBright’ insignia introduced as from 1964 and ‘BriteShine’ insignia introduced with effect from 1997 (running through to today). The full colour photographic images in the book are complimented by written descriptions which cite each item’s distinguishing characteristics… including measures of: typical weight, height, width and thickness (at a given point). A discussion of copies and faked items is also provided, including microscope resolution images of ‘tell tale’ signs to look for. The entries in this book are organised alphabetically and are consistent with those used in the Authors’ earlier publications (ie. the 614 page eBook version of Volume 1, as well as with the 236 page ‘Concise’ hard copy Editions of Volume 1). australian army insignia, post ww2 insignia and badges -

Medal, Elizabeth II Coronation 1953
The Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Medal was a commemorative medal made to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. For Coronation and Jubilee medals, the practice up until 1977 was that the authorities in the United Kingdom decided on a total number to be produced, then allocated a proportion to each of the Commonwealth countries and Crown dependencies and other possessions of the Crown. The award of the medals was then at the discretion of the government of each territory, which was left free to decide who got a medal and why. A total of 138,214 medals were issued, including: 11,561 to Australians 12,500 to Canadians Ladies awarded the medal can wear it on their left shoulder with the ribbon tied in the form of a bow. The medals were issued without inscription except for the 37 issued to the British Mount Everest Expedition. These were engraved MOUNT EVEREST EXPEDITION on the rim.Miniature medal with ribbon. The full size medal is a circular, silver medal, 1.25 inches in diameter. The obverse features a crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, in a high-collared ermine cloak and wearing the collar of the Garter and Badge of the Bath, and facing right. There is no raised rim and no legend. The reverse shows the Royal Cypher EIIR surmounted by a large crown. The legend around the edge reads QUEEN ELIZABETH II CROWNED 2nd JUNE 1953. The dark red ribbon is 1.25 inches (32 mm) wide, with two narrow dark blue stripes (0.09375 inches {3/32"} wide) in the centre (0.0625" apart) and narrow white stripes (0.0625") at each edge. medal elizabeth coronation -
