Residence Fountainhead Brewery Armstrong's Est. c 1872. The rear view photograph shows a more recent renovated building. Some evidence of demolition to rear of building (servants stairs etc.) Following notes taken from information in album 9 - "Compare earlier photos and note balcony etc. Later views, This photo early 2003. Owing to timber decay balcony was removed for safety. Finances permitting complete balcony will be replaced. Twin columns and iron lace are not original. Early description mentions statues in "niches" beside door. Female statue left is original. White pedestal at left was male stature damaged by a falling tree. Both statues were fountains." Two white columns at the entrance with decorative iron work support the roof of the porch with 2 white chairs and a table on top. The second photo show the back view of the two story building with a single story building attached that has a tin roof. W. Membrey Blacksmith Shop in Patrick Street beside the sale yards which later became the Technical School Gold Reef Campus. W. Membrey died when young leaving a large family. The business was then rented to Mr. G. Brehaut for 12/6 (twelve shillings six pence) per week. The Membrey family lived in Skene St. Stawell for many years. Notes record that a copy was make by Mark Dadswell, Stawell. Also the notes record in 1996 a copy was made and donated to the Society by Melbourne Museum. 76.1 - V.W. Membrey blacksmith at Marnoo. Donated by Alan Membrey June 2003 Beecroft, NSW.Sepia photograph depicting W. Membrey Black Smith shop. Standing in front of the wooden building are 10 men and 3 young boys. W. Membrey is holding a horse in the door way with 2 other horses either side of the building. A timber cart is to the left of the photograph. W. Membrey Black Smith is written on the front of the building W. Membrey General Smith & Farrier is on the side of the building. There are 3 copies or duplicates of the original photo, one small and 2 large. The second black and white photo (76.1) is of V.W. Membrey Blacksmith & Horseshoer. R ...Postcard original Congregational Church Scallan St. Stawell with picket fence and double gateway. Postcard No 21. The church in this photograph was built in 1874 and opened on Sunday September 13th. The Rev. S.C. Kent, of Melbourne was the Preacher. The building was intended to accommodate 250 people. The cost, exclusive of the land was 800 pounds. The building was designed and supervised by Rev J.G. Wilson. The Church was the first to be lit with gas in Stawell. Note gas light on the porch. This building is now used by the Lutheran Church.One post card of a church with 3 enlarged photos of the post card. The image is the Congregational Church in Stawell. Methodist kindergarten Sunday School Pupils in a garden c 1912. It was custom to take the kindgarden Sunday School children (Methodist) before the older senior Sunday school. The picture was taken beside the Anglican church in Dr. Aitkens Garden. Dr. Aitkens dwelling later became the Anglican Manse now demolished and replaced by a new Manse. Adult center back row. Deep Lead Church (Methodist) A set of six photos taken between 1927 and 1930. The site where this weather board church was situated is directly opposite the brick Deep Lead school on the Western Highway. The sugar gums still remain. At previous times other denominations used the building. 113 Methodist Weatherboard church, Deep Lead with people in the doorway. Out the front is a car parked in front of a picket fence. Printed on back of photo "These photographs were taken between 1927 & 1930. At this time Methodist Church services were conducted there; Sunday school was also held there until about 1936. The church building was sold to the Anderson Family of Dadswell's Bridge and rebuilt into a private home". 113.01 Group of children. Coloured photograph of Church built in Wakeham Street Stawell in 1870 and used as a Free Methodist Chapel. After the various branches of the Methodist Church united about 1900 the building was used by the Free Masons until their building in Skene Street was erected in 1926.
