This photograph shows the wedding of Maggie (Fran Margaret) Middleditch form Murrangowar to Frank Day who worked in the local saddler's shop. An article in the The Snowy River Mail and Tambo and Croajingolong Gazette : ORBOST PETTY SESSIONS. 8 April 1909 Constable O'Shannassy proceeded against Frank Day on a charge of being unlawfully in possession ol four kangaroo skins. Frank Merson Day was born in 1887 and died 1950. he was the son of George Seears Day and Annie Grose He and Maggie had four children : Eileen Margaret Annie Day; Francis Day; Anne Day and Frank Day. This is a pictorial record of a social event in Orbost in the early 20th century. Those recorded have connections to Orbost.A large black / white photograph of a wedding party. Veil worn by Margary (Madge) Isabelle Brydon. Was later worn by many (about 15) local ladies who lived in the area of Rushworth. Madge's daughters, Molly and Isobel both wore the veil at their weddings in 1938 and 1945. Donor is granddaughter of bride. Veil made by bride and described in the Waranga Basin newspaper at the time. Margary (Madge) Brydon married Edward (Ward) Sprunt at the bride's family home in Carag Carag, Victoria on 10th April 1912. Veil also worn by Mary (Molly) Leith at her wedding to William (Bill) Paynter on 18 January 1932 at Stanhope Presbyterian ChurchCream 1912 cotton net Princess veil. Mission to Seafarers Victorialegal record (item) - Register, Marriage Register, Circa 1947
The register documents twenty-five weddings that took place in the Mission to Seamen's church district between the 21st of April, 1947 to the 8th of June 1950. Each certificate is a record of all the information needed to legalise a marriage under Commonwealth law, such as names, dates of birth, marital status, parents and employment. Within the register, there are four Forms of Consent, used when the bride or groom were below the age of twenty-one. Amelia Allan (Amy) Jacobs on her marriage to James Dodgshun in 1916; photographed at the home of her grandfather, "Terreglea" in Boundary (Warrigal) Road, Surrey Hills. Amelia attended Ormiston Girls' School in Mont Albert soon after its opening in 1900. Her mother was Eleanor Mills, youngest daughter of Robert Shortbridge Mills and Ann Lovelady. She died soon after the birth of Amy. Her father was Henry Atwood Jacobs. Following Eleanor's death Henry married Amy Lilian Scales. William Garnet Macalister's parents, Thomas Mewburn and Ruth Hannah Macalister, owned and operated "Orbost House". William Garnet Macalister was born at Bairnsdale in 1884 and at Sale, aged 72, in 1958. He operated a line of coaches conveying passengers and parcels from Orbost to Cabbage Tree Creek, Club Terrace, Cann River and surrounding districts. The service departed from Orbost on Wednesdays and from the Cann River Hotel on Fridays. He was also Orbost's first milkman. He married Ethel Roda SAYERS in 1909.
